We are currently seeking a

Process Metallurgist

to become part of the Ulbrich Shaped Wire team located in North Haven, CT. The Process Metallurgist will support sales, production, and other organizational units in the determination of the organizations capacity to produce products that achieve defined customer requirements.

Consult with sales, operations and customers to review desired product specifications and /or production problems and provide related recommendations. Ensure compliance with all Quality Assurance plans and programs in the production of material as specified by individual customer orders.
Provide metallurgical and technical expertise in the application of material and metal processing procedures required to achieve defined customer specifications or in the resolution of product related problems.
Work in collaboration with sales, lab, and quality functions in the preparation of bid proposals.

Provide technical guidance in the areas of materials, procedures, quality, and economy and in the determination of Ulbrichs ability to achieve customers desired product requirement.
Develop detailed product order requirements in support of defined specifications.
Review and establish material processing and annealing practices and recommend appropriate and cost effective procedures for order processing.
Assist in the selection of raw materials giving consideration to the physical and chemical properties required to achieve end result.
Design production practices and procedures to meet special customer requirements.
Assist in the establishment and monitoring of laboratory test procedures.
Perform detailed review of lab and test results.
Assess and make final determination as to the acceptance or rejection of product prior to shipping.
Investigate customer claims and rejections to determine justification.

Consult with Quality Assurance in the analysis and disposition relative to internal non-conformance and customer complaints.
Review claims regarding process or product malfunction and provide recommendations relative to changes required and coordinate the achievement of overall Q.C. concept.

Recommend plan for salvage or reorder.
Review internal and external rejection reports to determine action to be taken and responsibility for rejection.
Check vendors ability to supply products and/or services to meet specific needs of the customer or company.
Monitor production capacity, processing and other factors that may affect delivery.
Develop and complete process and product improvement projects in conjunction with operations, sales management and plant engineering.
Ensure compliance with all quality system procedures and requirements as documented in the Companys Quality System and as pertain to area of functional responsibility.
Responsible for providing timely, accurate and detailed information regarding all nonconformances found in manufacturing to Quality Control function.
Regular attendance at work is required.
Job Requirements

Bachelors degree in Material Science or Metallurgy or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 3 years professional experience in the application of metallurgical testing and process application.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively on cross functional initiatives in order to meet customer needs.
Demonstrated ability to function in a collaborative sales and customer liaison capacity.
Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to meet challenges with resourcefulness and generate suggestions for improving product and process quality.
Experience with Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint.
