Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for executing rolling stock commodity strategies that are in support of strategic purchasing initiatives.Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will help develop commodity strategies pursuant to identifying productivity and supplier rationalization opportunities for direct materials. Will work as a liaison updating and applying information in coordination with international Procurement Team in Spain for the US Procurement Team.

Functional Description

  • Work directly with vendors to place purchase orders, monitor any updates or adjustments to the orders as needed.
  • Must be able to build rapport with vendors and be able to travel to suppliers sites when needed
  • Must be proactive and able to use internal resources to solve problems and/or offer ideas and solutions to senior management.
  • Experience with inventory planning, general purchasing practices, contract negotiations and supplier management.
  • Generate reports via the ERP system that will be used for improving processes and procedures within the department.
  • Experience in sourcing/purchasing materials and determining the right vendors based on quality, cost and schedule constraints.
  • Strong work ethic with ability to work well under pressure, high initiative, and ability to multitask.
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office, verbal & written communication skills
  • Must have a professional attitude exercising confidentiality as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with appropriate sense of urgency and drive for results.
  • Must be well organized with the ability to handle multiple assignments and prioritize appropriately.
Training/Education Required
  • Associates degree in Business, Operations Management, or Supply Chain or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a supply chain purchasing role, planning, and/or scheduling is required

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Microsoft Office proficient
  • Excellent Customer/Vendor relations
  • Will have excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Blueprint reading a plus
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to build and manage business relationships
Safety Requirements
  • Shall report all injuries/illnesses to their supervisor that occur at work, the day of the incident.
  • Shall report any unsafe conditions that are identified in their respective work area to their supervisor.
  • Shall comply with all Client safety policies, procedures, and requirements that are communicated to them, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
  • Shall wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is communicated and supplied to them.
  • Shall keep their respective work area clean and orderly at all times.
  • Shall attend all Client required training as soon as possible before the start of their assigned work.
  • Shall NOT operate any Client equipment (forklifts, cranes, scissor lifts) until certified to do so.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $60,000 to $80,000.
