This position is responsible for the management of the facility, event, and safety areas within the

Department of Athletics. These areas include athletics facility planning, maintenance, and set-up.

Athletics home event planning and management and non-athletic events staffing the athletic

facilities, set-up, and management. This position requires many decisions that come up quickly or

require a short turnaround. The position also requires planning and anticipating the needs of

the sports programs and the facilities. This position must make sound judgments on the useful life

of the equipment and the condition of facilities as both impact student-athlete safety.

Major Responsibilities:

• Manage the scheduling of practice facilities for all 18 intercollegiate teams.

• Coordinate the scheduling and execution of all team camps over the summer.

• Handle the day-to-day maintenance needs of eight facilities on campus, which include the Athletics Recreation Center, Brown Field, Valpo Softball Park, and Emory G. Bauer Field.

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Equipment Room and staff.

• Coordinate weekly game-day operations meetings to ensure smooth operations on game days.

• Collaborate with the Facilities Maintenance staff and all vendors to ensure facilities are clean and functional.

• Hire a staff of student workers to handle setup/breakdown of events as well as handling event management for all events taking place within the facilities.

• Work with the Onecard office to ensure that all building access is up to date throughout the Academic year.

• Work with multiple vendors to ensure that Valpo gets the most quality products for the best prices.

• Coordinate facility rental, event planning, and event management for both the National Lutheran Basketball Tournament, Harlem Globetrotters, and all other outside facility rentals.

• Oversee any maintenance projects and upgrades for all Athletic facilities.

• Assist in the design of renderings for facility renovations.

• Game management supervisor and on-site administrator for Valpo athletic contests

• Coordinate with all game officials to ensure they have proper accommodations and know our protocols on game days.

• Provide annual performance reviews for the assistant director for facilities.

• Ensure the safety of the student-athletes and coaches using athletic facilities and the patrons attending athletic events.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• The position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Sports Administration, Business, Management, or a related field.

• A master's degree is preferred but not required

• A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the operation of athletics or recreational facilities and the management of athletic events is required.

• Supervisory experience is required.

• Experience developing and managing facility, maintenance, and event budgets required.

• Ability to consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, effort, and energy.

• Demonstrate professionalism and integrity in a reliable way.

• Great collaborator with coaches and administration staff.

• Strategic thinker and solution-oriented administrator with an excellent work ethic.

• Effective communication skills and project management skills.

• Other competencies and skills are necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position at an elite level.

Required Skills

Required Experience

A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Qualified candidates will have 3-5 years of experience or a technical degree and 1 year of experience. Basic PLC/CNC knowledge is a plus. The ability to read to read tape measures and efficiently operate all other required measuring devices is also required. Candidates best suited for this role will have a proven ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Basic ability to read, write, speak, and understand English is required for safety purposes.
