What we are looking for

We’re looking for a Category Manager to support our ever growing supplier base and product catalog. Reporting to the Head of Supply, you will play a vital role in ensuring the day-to-day success of the CornerUp Marketplace. You’ll strategically manage product categories and negotiate with both internal and external stakeholders to drive sales, profitability, category penetration, market share, and meet or exceed projected metrics. You’ll own the catalog assortment, costing, pricing, and analytics, and adjust our assortment according to performance with our customer base. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who wants to take ownership of their responsibilities and grow within an organization. 

What you’ll do

  • Manage product P&L to meet and exceed gross margin targets 

  • Work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure appropriate catalog assortment

  • Develop, onboard and maintain supplier relationships to ensure optimal cost and service levels

  • Help design, build, and manage systems and solutions to support our marketplace growth objectives at scale

  • Manage in-app product and marketing promotions

  • Develop and track KPIs to identify problem areas, uncover opportunities for improvement, and identify patterns and trends that can inform future supply decisions 

  • Design Processes: map out and implement playbooks and procedures for key operational functions that will scale as we grow (ie. supplier onboarding, integrations, category improvements, and supplier operations)

  • Collaborate with Finance and Sales to measure total company costs, analyze competitor pricing, and develop sound pricing strategies to increase margins

Who are we looking for?

  • 1-3 years experience of relevant business experience (e.g., early-stage startup, high-growth tech company, management consulting, investment banking) 

  • Strong relationship building and verbal and written communication skills

  • Solid product pricing, costing, P&L, and analytical skills required.

  • Comfortable or savvy with tech

  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • High degree of accountability and ownership

  • Exceptional skills in negotiation, influencing, analyzing problems and decisions, and taking initiative.

  • Bias to action and enthusiasm for finding creative solutions to difficult problems

  • Collaborative mindset plus a willingness to roll up your sleeves and dig into the tactical alongside the strategic

  • Retail or e-commerce experience strongly preferred

  • Category management, merchandising, inventory management or supply chain experience is a strong plus
