Instructs and/or supervises clinical students in speech/language pathology. Pathologists may be part of a diagnostic team that serves to identify principle intervention strategies and recommend therapy programs.Minimum Qualification StandardsKnowledge, Abilities and Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   1. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of speech therapy and ability to apply them in the treatment of client population.
  2. Knowledge of speech and language disabilities.
  3. Knowledge of mental and physical handicaps; good interpersonal skills which include the ability to empathize, demonstrate respect, communicate, reflect feelings and confront constructively.
  4. Ability to relate freely to and work effectively with clients/students, families and professionals.

Education, Training and Experience:
Master's degree in Speech Pathology.Certificate and License Requirements:
Valid Georgia Certificate in Speech Pathology or Speech Therapy, or must possess or be eligible to receive certificate of clinical competency issued by the American Speech/Language/Hearing Association.Special Requirements: Valid Georgia Driver's LicensePaid Overtime (Y/N): NoDuties and Responsibilities:
  1. Assesses speech and language skills, level of language development, articulation ability and voice and fluency disorders of disabled clients using various instruments and techniques to determine the level of the disability and identify intervention strategies.
  2. Reviews and discusses medical and case histories; schedules evaluations and previews upcoming cases; determines evaluation needs and strategies.
  3. Meets with staff members and/or parents following evaluations to discuss clients' speech or language disorders.
  4. Writes and reviews comprehensive evaluation reports to summarize tests utilized, results of tests, diagnosis of speech disability and recommended intervention strategies; creates and revises screening tools for test populations.
  5. Coordinates student observations and clinical learning of speech/hearing therapy.
  6. Conducts speech therapy or language development classes for students in collaboration with general education teachers.
  7. Conducts speech therapy or language development classes for students.
  8. Presents programs to the public and other agencies and generates support regarding speech/language pathology, intervention strategies and therapy programs
  9. Consults with and advises community schools of appropriate services for children with speech /language disabilities taking into account the knowledge, skills and available resources of the therapist.
  10. Perform other Assignments as designated by the Director of Special Education.
