The Referral Specialist is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of a wide variety of specialty care, consults and diagnostic testing, including follow-up to confirm referral appointments were completed and results were received. The Specialist acts as a liaison between patient, physician, and the insurance company. This position obtains necessary insurance authorizations for patient referrals to specialists, consults, diagnostic testing, and procedures to ensure reimbursement occurs at the highest possible level and to assist in prevention of denials. Advises Provider and patient if authorization is denied. The Specialist works with patients and/or referring provider to ensure that all required testing has been completed prior to visit or procedure. Education requirements: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associate's degree in business or healthcare related field is preferred. Experience requirements: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a healthcare and/or medical practice setting. Experience with various insurance plans including Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance. Experience working with Microsoft Office computer programs, practice management systems and spreadsheets preferred. Previous experience processing referrals strongly preferred. Referral Coordinator Work Schedule Day shift, Monday through Friday Referral Coordinator Benefits At TidalHealth, team members working at least 36 hours per pay period based on 12-hour shift schedules or at least 37.5 hours for non 12-hour shift schedules and part-time team members working at least 30 hours or more on weekends only, are eligible for benefits.
