Director of Development-Foundation Giving

Job Summary: The Director of Development, Foundation Giving is responsible for working to secure and steward funding from private foundations for the benefit of Texas Christian University. This position will work to identify foundations that are new to TCU and relevant to the University’s needs, especially those in which the donors are active in setting foundation priorities and grant-making decisions. The Director will also manage an approved and assigned portfolio of foundations as “primary relationship manager,” keeping up-to-date about their missions and priorities, and ensuring that any opportunities for funding consideration are pursued.

Duties & Essential Job Functions: 1. Works in partnership with the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to maximize foundation giving for all TCU divisions. This includes working with the Prospect Development Office to conduct prospect research; developing cultivation and solicitation strategies; preparing visit and site visit briefings; consulting with foundation officials where appropriate and when assigned; writing concept papers, LOIs, proposals and stewardship reports; tracking proposal development and submissions and carefully managing the calendar for all renewals and reports regardless of prospect manager assignment; and staffing leaders as appropriate. 2. Manages a portfolio of approved and assigned foundations and maximizes opportunities to match their interests with institutional priorities. 3. Provides strategic oversight of the production and continued development of regular statistical reports relating to foundation fund-raising at TCU, and lead the critical analysis of foundation data as a basis for improvement and innovation. 4. Develops and leads a thorough, timely, and effective program for monitoring external sources of foundation news and information, and for disseminating these to the Corporate and Foundation Relations team and beyond. This includes serving as primary liaison with TCU’s Office of Sponsored Programs. 5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience: • Bachelor’s degree. • 5 plus years of related experience.

Preferred Education & Experience: • Experience with Foundation fund-raising in higher education

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: • Writing and academic experience (writing samples will be required)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Knowledge of principles and techniques/fundraising in higher education. • Knowledge of fundraising strategies to assist in the success of long-term fundraising efforts. • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint. • Skill in effective written and verbal communication. • Skill in organization and strong analytical abilities. • Skill in attention to detail and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. • Ability to work independently as well as on a team. • Ability to take appropriate initiative in advancing the goals of the office. • Ability to demonstrate intellectual curiosity, commitment to excellence, and dependable professional judgment. • Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. • Ability (demonstrated) to interact with individuals at all organizational levels.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations): • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment: • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours. • This role is an on campus, in-person position. • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job. • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
