Position Purpose

The

Mechanical/Structural Engineer

is dedicated to meeting the strategic objectives of the business within the entertainment industry. They conduct structural and mechanical analysis to ensure the safety and innovation of custom machinery, structures, and rigging systems. Additionally, they actively contribute to project execution by collaborating with design studios, project management, and external partners throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial concepting to final delivery.

Essential Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Adhere to TAIT safety and quality standards

Learn and apply TAIT design and engineering principles and best practices

Learn the markets and industries that TAIT serves

Understand the underlying physics of complex problems with the ability to apply these to real-work applications

Analyze designs utilizing hand calculations, custom tools, and analysis software with the ability to communicate results effectively in a collaborative fast paced environment

Engineer structures, machinery, and rigging systems to meet specific requirements of clients, local jurisdictions, and/or applicable standards and codes

Apply industry systems and TAIT assets to projects with minimal supervision

Provide timely and accurate analysis results to project design teams aiding in the development and execution of projects

Learn and manage activities of outside resources/third-party engineering firms regarding assigned functions on projects and how to collaborate effectively

Perform assigned duties according to the policies and expectations prescribed by the company and direct supervisor

Collaborate with all departments in a design and manufacturing environment

Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required

Regularly monitor department and organization communications

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics required.
Engineer in Training certification (preferred)
Willingness to extended working hours when necessary to meet project deadlines
Willingness and eligibility to travel (infrequently), domestic and international, for projects with supervision
2+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with an emphasis in machine design or power transmission design

OR

2+ years of structural engineering experience, with an emphasis in stress analysis
1+ year(s) of entertainment experience (preferred)
Working knowledge of mechanical engineering science and practice (power transmission design and analysis, exact constraint design, material science, stress analysis, mechanical connection engineering, dynamic analysis, fatigue analysis)

OR
Working knowledge of structural engineering science and practice (stress and deflection of structures, design for environmental conditions, connection engineering, aluminum structures, dynamic analysis, composites)
Working knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) principles and ANSYS mechanical or equivalent mechanical analysis software
Working knowledge of RISA-3D or equivalent structural analysis software
