Job Description

We are recruiting two Accounting Technicians to join a technologically advanced government agency that offers all the benefits of the public sector. Our client offers CalPERS benefits, ongoing training, and development opportunities. This is a great opportunity to gain experience if you are early in your accounting career The Accounting Technician will be responsible for preparing weekly check runs, reconciling accounts, assisting accountants as needed, processing accounts payable claims, assist with payroll processing/tax deposits and preparing various state and federal reporting. This is a contract to hire position. Pay: $22.75/hr.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience working in an accounting department, attention to detail and strong technical skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct general to complex research, as needed (i.e. taxability of benefits, litigation, reconciliation, customer service)
  • Prepare entries for correcting journals and first-of-year journals
  • Enter new fixed assets into the IFAS system (interest and fees)
  • Reconcile accounts, funds and/or projects
  • Assist accountants as needed and provide guidance to other staff in accountants' absence
  • Prepare and respond to correspondence and other inquiries
  • Process accounts payable claims
  • Prepare 1099s at year's end
  • Set up all loans for servicing
  • Generate purchase orders and create purchase requisition numbers
  • Update and maintain check management and fixed asset systems
  • Monitor and track cash flow for cash management forecasting
  • Reconcile bank statement to General Ledger
  • Reconcile and post fixed assets
  • Create fixed asset and cash and investment audit work papers
  • Create and generate various cash analysis reports
  • Allocate interest income and fees to the different funds
  • Establish and maintain petty cash funds
  • Communicate with City Treasurer and bank personnel as needed
  • Process payroll, including gross pay adjustments
  • Prepare various payroll reports
  • Serve as backup to primary staff
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • AA degree plus 2 years related experience or High School Diploma/GED and 4 years related experience in clerical accounting, accounting principles, data processing, and financial record keeping
  • Strong technical skills and ability to use MS Excel proficiently
  • Accurate data entry skills
  • Business mathematics skills normally associated with two years practical experience or the successful completion of a business mathematics course
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
