Job Summary/Basic Functions

Virginia State University's Office of Institutional Advancement is looking to hire three (3) Philanthropy Officer's who build enduring, mutually beneficial relationships between the university, the public sector and community organizations at the local, state and federal levels by connecting VSU's faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends through strategic partnerships and programs. This role maintains stewardship contacts individual (new, non-alumni individuals), corporate and foundation donors, adhering to the highest ethical standards. Works collaboratively with fellow advancement team members, volunteers and other university representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for institution-wide priorities. This position will be responsible for maling cold calls and developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.

The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for structuring, implementing and monitoring a highly effective development and donor services program working closely with the Vice President and staff to support and embrace the mission and goals of Virginia State University.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:

A Bachelor's Degree.

Ability to identify and understand the needs and interests of individual (new, non-alumni individuals), corporate and foundation donors in order to develop relationships between them and VSU.

Ability to research and identify individual (new non-alumni individuals), corporate and foundation donors (10K+).

Ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible, collegial, goal-oriented and entrepreneurial environment.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Possession of a high degree of integrity, initiative, and professionalism as well as sound judgment.

Self-starter with a resourceful and entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to act decisively.

Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours, including some weekends and evenings, and to travel on occasion.

Experience in higher education

Additional Considerations:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).

Minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated progressive success in individual, corporate and foundation donors ($10K +) fundraising.

Fundraising experience at a Historical Black College and University (HBCU) preferrred.
