Job Description

Lead Estimator/Project Manager Salary Status: DOE Location: Elgin, IL Reports to: Vice President Primary Responsibilities: Present projects to be considered for bidding. Provide accurate estimates for commercial and industrial projects throughout the Chicagoland suburbs. Coordinate with estimating team. Submit RFI’s to clarify scope of work. Attend any pre-bid meetings to determine complete scope of work. Complete takeoff based on scope of work. Thoroughly build estimate with lowest cost or most cost-effective methodology. Ensure all relative building codes are considered based on NEC and local municipalities. Submit complete, well-organized proposals to management for approval prior to releasing it to customer. Contract scope of work is responsibility of the Estimator, contracts should be sent to legal for review and negotiation. Create submittal packages for approval in a timely manner. Submit shop drawings in a timely manner Create a detailed material and labor budget to assist staff in managing the overall project timeline/schedule to ensure project fits into the workforce, equipment, and site readiness capabilities. Create job start so the field has it available to apply time. Maintain ownership of project plan: Including scope documentation, risk management, project objectives, and timing. Lock in as much material pricing as possible working with distributors on job quotes. Create purchase orders and release materials as needed by phase of project. Create and submit accurate change order requests. Track time and verify what is ready for accounting. Attend weekly site production meetings. Attend weekly office production meetings. Maintain project files. Create as-builts as requested by the customer. Estimator is responsible for the success of the project, if labor or materials are not meeting budget it is his/her responsibility to present to management the conflict in costing. Complete other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor. Minimum Requirements: 5+ years’ experience of field installation. Estimating experience managing small, medium, and large electrical projects. Strong understanding of blueprint reading and specifications. Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code. Strong understanding of the construction process and order of operations. Strong communication skills. Strong ability to encourage and support problem escalation, promote good working relationships. Strong reporting, organization, and problem-solving skills; ability to drive accountability. Ability to work cross-functionally within a team-based environment. Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities. Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Preferred Traits and Skills: 10+ years’ experience of field installation. 10+ years’ estimating experience managing small, medium, and large electrical projects. Time management and communication skills formal training. Business or Engineering degree.
