This position will provide business intelligence, reporting and analytics, perform research, predictive analytics, and benchmark assessments to deliver data-driven insights to clinical / operational improvements. Role will oversee analysis of potential impact with internal performance (entity-based and at system-level); Direct the identification of strategies and /or actionable plans for performance initiatives for the enterprise and service lines; and monitor implementation of strategic initiatives to ensure the successful execution of the OU Health Perioperative/Procedural strategic plan.

The Admin Director Perioperative Business Operations serves as the administrative and operational leader for Perioperative/Procedural services.

Essential Functions

  • Interprets impact of broad scope organizational change for staff and develops change strategies for successful implementation.
  • Incorporates the OU Way, missions and values in goals and programs within the administrative side of Perioperative/Procedural services.
  • Develops and manages operational initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Formulates objectives, goals, and strategies collaboratively with other stakeholders.
  • Prepares and delivers reports to operational leadership outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives, to include performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality, safety, marketing, and human resources.

The role will report to the VP for Perioperative/Procedural Services.

Major Job Responsibilities

Business Development
  • Direct development of internal performance monitoring tools and analytics across clinical, financial, and operational areas.
  • Coordinate with senior hospital leadership to direct forecasting of clinical volumes, revenues and expenses for perioperative operations
  • Direct the development of routine reports that provide financial statistics & performance indicators utilizing both internal and external benchmark data.
  • Oversee support of operational analysis / routine monitoring of key clinical areas that impact peri-operative throughput and capacity.
  • Coordinate the development of complex volume and financial models associated with business case development and strategic investments, in conjunction with various internal and external business partners, including vendor partners
Percent of time: 30%

Strategy Development
  • Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics. Perform research, predictive analytics, benchmarking to deliver data-driven insights to identify potential savings, growth opportunities and clinical / operational improvements
  • Develop tools, graphics and presentations to assist senior management in understanding methods and processes. required to achieve measurable results
  • Consult with senior leadership to identify, develop and implement perioperative programs designed to reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality
  • Analyze peri-operative purchases to identify key opportunities for improved fiscal management
  • Develop dashboards that relay key financial, market and operational performance metrics.
Percent of time: 20%

Organizational Guidance and Strategy Execution
  • Plan and facilitate strategic planning processes throughout the system
  • Facilitate meetings with the Perioperative Governance Team and/or Senior Leadership, finance and provide guidance to organizational leaders on whether proposed initiatives fit within the organization's strategic imperatives
  • Direct team in which strategic initiatives should be brought forth
  • Own relationships with enterprise level leadership positions
  • Connect leaders/owners of related or interdependent strategic initiatives to ensure that efforts remain coordinated
  • Inform the strategic direction of enterprise level leaders based on knowledge of internal and external environment, as well as existing strategic initiatives and priorities
  • Coordinate integration and alignment among disparate strategic planning efforts across the enterprise •Assess the portfolio of strategic initiatives to maintain a balanced approach to achieving the enterprise strategic plan
  • Collaborate with enterprise and entity-based leadership to integrate strategic planning and business case development with capital and operating budget process and performance management
  • Communicate process for bringing forward strategic initiatives to enterprise leadership
  • Communicate results of strategic approval process to enterprise stakeholders
  • Report progress of approved strategic/cost savings initiatives to enterprise and entity-based leadership.
  • Develops goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for perioperative finance, scheduling, and materials management operations.
  • Is responsible for marketing the surgery program and developing positive surgeon relations through accurate patient scheduling, block scheduling, and management and information systems support.
  • Provides an efficient, effective, and accurate billing process in accordance with hospital financial services policies and in compliance with payers.
  • Audits time, supply, equipment, and service charges to assure that proper and complete information is obtained to maximize revenues.
  • Develops and implements effective, results-oriented management reports/tools for each cost center in perioperative/procedural services.
  • Utilizes quality improvement reports and redesign principles in working with staff and other departments to continually improve service and efficiencies.

  • Assess whether implemented strategic initiatives are meeting their performance objectives and help develop a recommended course of action if they are not
  • Identify risks and barriers to success for approved strategic initiatives as they are being implemented and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Presents educational programs for departments, administration, physicians, and other appropriate personnel.
  • Educate and develop staff on the use of information systems and analytical tools.
  • Effectively mentor and manage staff across the Enterprise.

  • Directs and provides oversight for executing operational programs, policies and procedures, that together assure achievement of departmental goals and objectives in area of responsibility
  • Develops and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures
  • Manage and oversee employee performance through performance planning, coaching and performance appraisal
