In our vision, we will identify and predict chronic health exacerbations of patients earlier at home so we can activate preventive care measures in a non-emergent setting vastly improving outcomes and costs for the whole system. Our team of serial entrepreneurs, engineers, and clinicians are building the next generation of medical products at the intersection of hardware, software, and artificial intelligence. We develop these next generation products to improve the lives of chronic care patients by passively monitoring changes in their urine over time with our AI and care team infrastructure. In the US, 80% of healthcare spend occurs in 20% of patients. We aim to drastically reduce this cost through modern software, hardware, and preventative care services. Our core device, the UrinDx, combines continuous urinary diagnostics and machine-learning trained on identifying health exacerbations to allow patients to track changes in their health over time at home by monitoring changes in their urine over time. All without having to change anything about their daily bathroom routine. Its core connected software product is a platform to help doctors monitor the health of their patients through tracking changes in key compositional changes in the urine of such patients, so that physicians and patients can stay aligned without direct interaction. To date, we've raised from top tier investors such as Y Combinator, Innospark Ventures, Rebel Fund, and some of the largest strategics in the space. POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a Head of AI that will be a catalyst to our current team as we continue our growth trajectory to revolutionize the lives of the patients we aim to serve. What You'll Do: · Lead all AI/ML activities including development, deployment, and maintenance of complex ML models in a production environment · Contribute to hands on training, testing, and validation of AI models as well as on going software development requirements of the company · Lead all data science activities and collaborate with clinicians to transform unmet needs into actionable insights · Collaborate with hardware, software, regulatory, and quality teams for an integrated product development approach · Develop regulatory strategy with respect to FDA guidance of AI/ML product development · Recruit, train, and inspire your team as we continue to grow into the future · Collaborate with the Starling leadership team on defining and executing the company growth strategy What You'll Have: · 6+ years of progressive and diverse experience in the development of AI-based in vitro diagnostic (IVD) or medical device products · Proficiency in several data science programming languages and tools (Python, C++, R, Java, MATLAB, SQL, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, etc.) · Strong background in machine and statistical learning techniques for sequential data (classification, dimensionality reduction, deep RNNs, LSTM) · Commercial experience in the architecture, development, and deployment of cloud infrastructure for production AI/ML inference (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.) · Experience in container management systems (Amazon ECS, Docker, Kubernetes) · Demonstrated experience in a lead role of AI/ML product development through the total product life cycle · Extensive knowledge of FDA guidance and AI/ML development under “Good Machine Learning Practice” (GMLP), i.e., best practices for data management, feature extraction, training, interpretability, evaluation, and documentation · Experienced in providing statistical support for clinical trials for FDA regulatory submissions · Extensive experience partnering and communicating with executives and departmental leads: Marketing / Product, Quality, Regulatory, Finance / BD, HR, Operations, Manufacturing. Including founders & BODs.
