Our client, a privately owned Real estate investment trust is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join their team

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$90,000

Position Overview:

As a Senior Property Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of our property portfolio, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in accounting practices.

Responsibilities of the Senior Property Accountant:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple properties, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP standards
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development and management of property budgets and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations to optimize financial performance
  • Lease Administration: Manage lease agreements, including rent escalations, CAM charges, and tenant billings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in billing and collections
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes for properties, including vendor invoices, tenant billing, and rent collections, ensuring timely payments and reconciliations
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct variance analysis and financial modeling to identify trends, assess property performance, and support decision-making processes
  • Tax Compliance: Assist in the preparation of property tax filings, including assessment reviews, appeals, and compliance with local tax regulations
  • Audit Support: Coordinate with auditors during financial audits, providing documentation and support as needed to ensure a smooth audit process
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve efficiency, and enhance internal controls within the property accounting function
  • Tenant Relations: Serve as a point of contact for tenants regarding financial matters, addressing inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and timely manner
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with property managers, asset managers, and other stakeholders to support overall property management objectives and financial goals
Qualifications for the Senior Property Accountant:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in property accounting or real estate finance, with a strong understanding of property management principles
  • Proficiency in property management accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and Microsoft Excel
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards applicable to real estate
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred
