Summary

A summer internship position available for someone with strong interest in the research in the Gribble lab. The intern will conduct research on aging and maternal effects using rotifers as a model system. The intern will work directly with Gribble lab researchers to assist with experimental design, data collection, and data analysis in accordance with the goals of the specific project. The intern will be responsible for the preparation of written and oral reports at the end of the internship.

The Intern has the overall responsibilities:

  • Working directly with lab researchers to conduct experiments and assist with various laboratory experimental protocols.
  • Conduct experiments with live rotifers and phytoplankton.
  • Potential experimental techniques include basic molecular biology methods such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, and sequencing.
  • Experiments may include screening CRISPR mutants to confirm phenotype.
  • Record, organize, analyze, and present data.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and educational opportunities.
  • Understanding internal MBL rules and policies.
Basic Qualifications:

Currently working towards a B.S. or B.A. with an emphasis in biology.
Experience with basic laboratory techniques and a strong commitment to expanding knowledge and research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety and techniques.
  • Ability to address and solve experimental challenges.
  • Familiarity with basic biological laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
