DescriptionThis position has the opportunity to interact heavily with our students on a daily basis in their common living areas, hallways, lounges, etc. They will help support student life as well as events on campus. This role will primarily be responsible to ensure clean and sanitary conditions for common student residential spaces.This position may be scheduled for 30 or 40 hours per week and may be available in first, second, or third shift.Job ResponsibilitiesThe custodial staff maintains building appearance and cleanliness in all areas: lobbies, entrances, classrooms, offices, hallways, kitchens, conference rooms, staircases, study lounges, restrooms, and shower rooms.Custodial duties will primarily consist of:Unlock/lock building and turn on/off lightsSweep, mop, vacuum, and other floor careCollect recycling and empty trash receptaclesClean glass and dust surface areasDisinfect fixturesAnnual deep cleaning and other maintenance projectsAssist with set-ups for campus eventsMaintain outside entrances year-round, including snow removalClean restroom and show-room facilitiesOther duties as assignedSupervisory ResponsibilitiesMay direct and support student employeesCustodial Staff Lead positions provide guidance and organization to other team members in your buildingQualificationsEducation: High School diploma and/or equivalent preferred but not requiredTraining on blood borne pathogens and proper procedures for clean up on hazardous/infectious materials according to OSHA specifications (see supervisor for more information) will be required after hireExperience: Must be detailed orientated and have good time management and organizational skillsBasic computer knowledge and operation to submit on-line time cards, submit work orders, complete various on-line training requirementsProven ability to work with othersMust be able to read sufficiently to follow instructions, ability to mix appropriate chemical dilution ratio and understand directions for useAbility to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the collegePhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentMobility: walk or stand for extended periods of time e Lifting: ability to lift and carry 50 poundsDexterity: must have a full range of motion including bending, stretching, lifting, and kneeling.Be available for scheduled shiftOvertime may be requiredInside and outside of buildings, spaces may or may not be air conditionedExposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, noise, dust and fumesRequired to work in restricted places which may require stooping, bending and kneelingBuildings and grounds are smoke freeAbout Luther CollegeLuther College offers an excellent benefit package including generous employer retirement contributions, competitive health insurance premiums, short and long-term disability, life insurance, and tuition benefits for employee, spouse, and dependents.
