Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Fiscal Services Director or Designee, the Accounting Technician performs a variety of routine and non-routine accounting functions such as accounts payable, payroll, budget, and receivable, records and reports; and to do related work as required. This position is also responsible for supporting the Director in conducting key activities such as month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, fixed assets, financial analysis, account reconciliations and Audits.
•Knowledge of Charters organization and its policies and procedure pertinent to the position
•Is knowledgeable and proficient in the use of computers and accounting programs, use of Microsoft suite including word, excel and power-point and other financial tools
•Knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of accounting
•Knowledge of State Apportionment as it relates to school attendance
•Knowledge of various source of information
•Knowledge of CalSTRS and CalPERS
•GAAP and FASB foundation: accrual and grant accounting, and revenue recognition
•Ability to make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy
•Ability to post accounts, ledgers, payroll summaries, and time sheets
•Ability to sort, code, categorize, tabulate, and file date
•Ability to research problems and recommend solutions
•Ability to check and compare information for completeness and accuracy
•Ability to read, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to an assigned work unit
•Ability to maintain accurate confidential records and use of independent judgment and discretion as needed in dealing with confidential information and documents
•Ability to review ones' work for accuracy and procedural conformance
•Ability to perform repetitive work requiring concentration on details and the ability to follow established procedures and methods
•Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, auditors, public and other agencies involved in the act

Requirements / Qualifications

Positions in this class may be assigned responsibility for specific accounting, payroll and/or budget clerical functions within the Fiscal Services Department. The payroll function requires an extensive knowledge of both certificated and classified rules, procedures related to payroll and personnel assignment actions, as well as complex federal, state and county regulations. Employees are required to apply rules, regulations and guidelines from the manuals handbooks and the established business practices. Employees in this class work within established procedures and are expected to exercise judgment in handling individual situations, establishing methods and determining work priorities within existing departmental guidelines
