Payload and Antenna Design Engineer for a new satellite manufacture which will disrupt the existing satellite communications market. Their satellite manufacturing will be producing compact communication satellites (500 Kg - 1000 Kg) for Geostationary orbit (GEO) systems for operation around the world and a range of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite platforms and applications. We are therefore seeking the highest calibre individuals to join their design and manufacturing team. More than just technical competence, we are looking for people with commitment and ambition. Responsibilities The Payload and Antenna Design Engineer will be responsible for monitoring and supervising the production of the spacecraft payload at the payload manufacturing contractor. The Payload and Antenna Design engineer will be responsible for defining the power, data, thermal and other interfaces needed by the payload at spacecraft level. Monitor and liaise with the payload development contractor for all aspects of the communications payload development including the user beam forming arrays, channelization, gateway antennas and RF electronics Monitor the functional and performance verification of the payload(s) at the contractor site Monitor and follow all aspects of the payload development and qualification Ensure that all payload documentation required by the spacecraft team is produced by the payload contractor Liaise with the spacecraft platform team for the definition of the required interfaces for power, data, thermal and other requisites for the payload operation at spacecraft level Define the platform-payload interface specifications Specify the payload testing to be performed at spacecraft level integration Specify the antenna testing and analysis to be performed at spacecraft level including range testing, deployment testing, near-far-field analysis etc. Support the spacecraft level environmental test campaign for all payload level operations Support the launch preparation, LEOP and commissioning definition for payload activities Support the production of in-orbit procedure preparation for payload level activities Qualifications and Experience Minimum of 5 years professional experience in spacecraft communications payloads development and implementation Strong knowledge of digital payload design and definition Ability and willingness to include latest generation processes and techniques for manufacturing Strong written and verbal communications skills Strong technical background and proven program history Ability to produce spacecraft budgets and specifications Location and Duration The location for the task is in Melbourne, Florida and some amount of home working and travel may be envisaged Some attendance at the payload manufacturer(s) premises may be envisaged to monitor the qualification.
