Job Summary:

The Buyer coordinates with potential suppliers, negotiate prices and terms, and make agreements or contracts for purchases. The Buyer establishes and maintains ongoing relationships with preferred suppliers to ensure getting the best price possible for goods that meet the quality standards and parameters.

They are also responsible for ensuring consumables and materials such as components, supply items, tooling, etc. are available for production, maintenance, and material handling operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage POs with suppliers including sending, confirming, and communicating all PO related changes to the supplier in a timely manner.
  • Identify needs, manage inventory, execute POs for production materials, supplies and components.
  • Ensure delivery schedules are met with suppliers.
  • Ensure material requirements from all areas are supported.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key company suppliers.
  • Act as the primary interface with suppliers on delivery status, issues, and problem resolution.
  • Act as the primary interface with production, maintenance, and material handling on supply.
  • Set up and manage safety stock levels and optimize material replenishment schedules.
  • Utilize inventory tracking methodologies, run out reports and other analyses to ensure supply.
  • Maintain inventory to ensure that levels stay at predetermined limit so orders can be fulfilled properly and in a timely fashion.
  • Efficient management of material planning with the production teams, and accurate tracking of material usage.
  • Resolve service and material procurement issues.
  • Support Receiving Inspection and Incoming Quality Control to ensure components meet defined quality standards and requirements.
  • Seek new and better avenues for obtaining raw materials at lower prices.
  • Monitor costs associated with procurement and production of goods for accuracy and profitability. Strive to lower costs of good and services.
  • Facilitate supplier corrective actions as required.
  • Create and modify schedules as required to meet customer demands.
  • Monitor on-time delivery, report any foreseen issue, and contribute to improvements in delivery metrics.
  • Maintain files records and documents related to all purchasing activities for future referencing.
  • Identifying and resolving key shortages or excess inventory.
  • Manage cycle counts for accurate inventory.
  • Request RGAs and follow up with credits.
  • Work with manufacturing and suppliers on schedule attainability, capacity, and pricing.

Required Education and Experience

  • College Degree preferred or equivalent job experience required in Supply Chain, Operations Management, or Accounting.
  • 5+ years in Purchasing or Supply Chain role
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of supply chain and inventory management.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Background in manufacturing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Strong communication and relationships with external suppliers.
  • Fishbowl experience a plus.
  • Ability to adhere and meet Production and Engineering scheduling demands.
