The Opportunity

Leverage your industry expertise and join our expanding team in this Underwriter Trainer opportunity. The Underwriter Trainer will be responsible for training needs and quality assurance analysis of accounts within the Underwriting Department. This will include active training, identifying and assessing training needs, creating tailored training plans, and implementing various training methods to enhance new and current Underwriting Department employees' knowledge, skills, and performance. In addition to training, this position will be responsible for performing quality assurance assessments, assessing TQA Power BI reports and maintaining the online TIMS Underwriting Site.

Your WORK as an Underwriter Trainer will make a difference by:
  • Responsible for continuous evaluation and training of core technical competencies and knowledge within the Underwriting Department with a focus on Express Account Underwriters.
  • Coordinate and schedule both in-person and remote training for all new hire training sessions.
  • Coordinate refresher training and initiatives on changes in coverages, procedures, and operating system for underwriting employees.
  • Identify and assess training needs for the Underwriting Department with a focus on Express Account Underwriters.
  • Create tailored training plans and develop resources/training materials, and development paths.
  • Provide consistent design, development, delivery, and measurement of training programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and work with the Underwriting Quality and Training Manager to make necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
  • Track and report on the progress and success of training program(s) to the manager.
  • Perform quality reviews to ensure compliance, file adequacy, and workflow efficiency.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of agency training.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting on quality trends for the Underwriting Department.
  • Assist in collaborating with various teams in the Underwriting Department to maintain the training program, initiatives, training resources/materials, and development paths.
  • Assist in the collaboration with departments throughout the organization to align training programs with organizational goals and objectives
  • Assist in updating and maintaining the Underwriting TIMS site, working with department leaders and the Quality and Training team to ensure content is current.
  • Assist in Managing yearly Reinsurance Audit
  • Collaborate with members of the Quality and Training team to identify areas of opportunity and additional departmental quality assurance and training needs.
Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 3-5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
  • Experience with Express Accounts.
  • Good working knowledge of the technical aspects of each Builders Mutual line of business.
  • Ability to build and maintain agency/underwriting relationships.
  • Excellent people skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills
  • General knowledge of the construction industry and corresponding insurance needs.
  • Proficient working knowledge of ImageRight, POINT, Adobe, and Office 365 programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
  • Ability to develop strong presentation and facilitation skills to effectively present information and training in one-on-one and group settings
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively transfer knowledge and skills to others.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization and build collaborative relationships.
  • Problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
