Job Purpose

The Janitor is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the interior and exterior parts of our building to provide a clean and healthy facility for everyone. This Individual is also responsible for providing basic direction to volunteers that are assisting with general cleaning tasks during their shift. The Janitor will keep the building clean and in orderly condition, performing multiple cleaning duties as directed by the Facilities Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities
•Utilize equipment to perform cleaning operations, including wet/dry mops, brooms, floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, cleaning supplies, towels, steel wool, and trash cans to keep the facility and property in clean and orderly condition.
•Perform routine maintenance activities as outlined in the maintenance schedule.
•Perform heavy cleaning duties on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as directed by the Facilities Manager.
•Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors while using proper signage to ensure the safety of the public, volunteers and staff
•Collects and disposes of trash following approved procedures.
•Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities and complete weekly checklist
•Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
•Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with appropriate cleaners.
•Follows procedures for use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
•Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture.
•Shampoos or steam-cleans cloth chairs as needed.
•Communicate and guide volunteers at HSHC that are assisting with general cleaning duties.
•Communicate any maintenance concerns to the Facilities Manager.
•Work outside all year round in various types of weather, i.e. removal of debris and snow from side walk area.
•Provide friendly and professional interactions with staff and volunteers.
•Notify Facilities Manager of any additional repairs needed to the building.
•Communicate supply and equipment needs to Facilities Manager in a timely manner.
•Performs additional duties as assigned

  • Be flexible to work some nights and weekends while providing reliable transportation
  • Be able to pivot and react quickly to the unplanned challenges that often occur in our world each day.
  • Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. without health risk.
