The Role: Eligibility Advocate Lead

The Eligibility Advocate Lead will act as a subject matter expert, assisting the department manager in providing guidance, coaching and solutions to the MWHC Advocate team. As an Advocate Team, the Eligibility Advocates and Lead will assist uninsured and underinsured patients secure healthcare benefits by conducting screening applications on patient referrals received from the hospital. Advocates effectively assist patients in securing medical coverage by screening referred patients and coordinating the application process through successful approval and invoicing. Advocates follow-up with social service agencies and other third-party eligibility services to ensure payment for the hospitals and satisfaction for the patients.

As an Eligibility Advocate Lead, you will:
  • Provide coaching, training, and solutions to the Advocate team on a daily basis
  • Understand and perform all general responsibilities of an Eligibility Advocate (patient eligibility screenings, Medicare, Medicaid, and documentation requirements)
  • Maintain an active eligibility caseload, as necessary and serve as the backup during absences and vacancies
  • Leverage eligibility knowledge and expertise to develop solutions to identified problems
  • Serve as a mentor for Eligibility team members
  • Identify training needs to ensure the team is efficient and effective
  • Be responsible for distributing information to team members and other applicable staff pertaining to updates of all state and federal programs, as the subject matter expert
  • Possess strong customer service and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and keeping track of and structuring various tasks as instructed by the manager
  • Lead by example; Follow all policies and procedures put in place by the Company and medical facility
  • Obtain daily census to ensure that all Inpatients are screened
  • Review facility email to ensure that all referrals are screened, and applications completed as applicable
  • Motivate and inspire the team by creating an environment that promotes positive and effective verbal and nonverbal communication, encourages teamwork, and demonstrates flexibility
  • Report performance issues to the team Manager as applicable and participate in necessary counseling
  • Perform Quality Account Reviews monthly for team members
  • Travel to designated satellite facilities as needed / required
  • Comply with all state and federal regulations and company policies that include, but are not limited to attendance, performance, patient privacy, system security and safety
  • Work directly with the department Manager to establish and deliver on customer expectations
You will be successful if you have:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Two to five years of related experience such as advocacy and customer service and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Case management experience and working knowledge of State and Federal programs such as Medicaid and Social Security Disability, is a plus
  • Experience with hospital billing systems (Meditech, EPIC, Allscripts, etc.) desired.
  • Past advocacy experience or experience with helping others through enrollment processes is a plus
  • Must be comfortable working directly with patients in an inpatient hospital room environment, including behavioral health patients.
  • Ability to capture heavy documentation requirements quickly and accurately in both the company and hospital computer systems.
  • MS Office proficiency
