Description: As a Design Director at INDUSTRY, you will be responsible for leading our graphic design team in conceptualizing and executing creative solutions that align with our brand identity and marketing objectives. The design director provides leadership and direction to set clear expectations and goals. Motivate and inspire team members to achieve their best performance and foster a positive and collaborative team culture, promoting teamwork, communication, and mutual respect.

The design director collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to translate business goals into visually engaging designs and are an expert focused on communication design and content development. This position considers global trends and consumer trends, while more specifically focusing on design and marketing. The design director is comfortable taking direction, pushing back, and managing up. The design director is a passionate thinker who believes a brand has the opportunity to shape a business and connect with culture in authentic and innovative ways

This is an exempt full-time position based in Portland, Oregon.

Responsibilities: Manage the design team which includes check ins, performance reviews, guiding and mentoring and supporting the team in their role. Allocate design resources effectively for all projects while ensuring that assignments are equitable among the team and identify resource gaps and opportunities to prioritize team productivity. Recognize and reward outstanding performance, while addressing areas for improvement and develop individual development plans and opportunities. Owns client project deliverables that execute a clear and compelling design solution and articulates relevance and appropriateness to client ask and challenge. Leads project teams with communication design; varying from graphic design to visual design and layout design. Leads team brainstorms and overall content generation for both internal and external projects. Lead INDUSTRY’s marketing and client-experience leads in the organization and layout of INDUSTRY’s case studies and client-facing business communication tools. Inspire design teams to do innovative work and provide mentorship in all areas of industrial design including visual, verbal, and experience design Execute design work to ensure final deliverables meet INDUSTRY standards and client expectations. Partner with the creative lead, account lead and collaborate with other internal and external teams to successfully lead projects

Requirements: 7+ years of experience in graphic design within the creative industry focusing on branding and agency work Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience leading and managing a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Excellent 2D visualization skills, including hand-sketching, tablet-sketching, illustrator renderings, presentation storytelling and layout design Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, rendering programs (Keyshot, Bunkspeed, Alias, or similar), Powerpoint/Keynote presentation software. Regularly tracks and synthesizes trends in service and experience design. Ability to provide constructive feedback your team and help them grow in their craft. A passionate thinker who believes a brand has the opportunity to shape a business and connect with culture in authentic and innovative way Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout techniques, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Proven ability to balance creative vision with business objectives, strategic priorities, and practical considerations to deliver impactful design solutions that drive results.
