R.J. Corman Railroad Group is seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation / Claims Reporting Specialist, to manage our workers' compensation and certain other claims efficiently. This position will oversee the entire process, working with team members, management, insurers, and legal experts. Ensure compliance while supporting injured workers through recovery. Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage workers' compensation claims comprehensively, from initial reporting to investigation and tracking.
Act as the primary contact for team members on workers' compensation concerns, offering guidance and support throughout the claim process.
Work closely with People Services, supervisors, and injured employees to ensure precise and prompt reporting of all workplace injuries and illnesses.
Coordinate communication with insurance providers, legal counsel, and healthcare professionals to facilitate timely claim processing and effective information exchange among all involved parties.
Maintain meticulous and current records of all workers' compensation claims, ensuring adherence to legal requirements and company policies.
Arrange and schedule medical appointments, evaluations, and necessary treatments for injured employees.
Oversee the progress of injured employees' recovery, providing regular updates to relevant stakeholders including People Services, supervisors, and insurance providers.
Document telephone conversations, witness statements, medical reports, and accident investigation outcomes.
Conduct regular reviews and audits of workers' compensation data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
Seek to understand the industry, job functions of team members and environment.
Stay informed about changes in workers' compensation laws and regulations to ensure compliance and suggest updates to policies or procedures when necessary.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of workers' compensation laws, regulations, and processes
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to both team members and stakeholders
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple claims simultaneously and to meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills to assess and determine the validity of workers' compensation claims
- Proficiency in using computer software (Excel, MS Word, Outlook) and databases to track and report on claims
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with various stakeholders
- It is anticipated that the position will also have responsibility over certain other third-party (non-workers compensation) claims (property damage, etc.)
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field
- Previous experience in workers' compensation claims, administration or a related role preferred
- The ability and willingness to work outside of 8-5 office hours.
- The ideal candidate will have multi-state experience
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local workers' compensation laws and regulations
- Certification in workers' compensation administration, OSHA or a related field is a plus
- Familiarity with medical terminology and understanding of healthcare processes related to workers' compensation claims
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to empathize and provide support to injured team members
- Experience working with insurance providers, legal professionals, and healthcare providers related to workers' compensation claims
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Work site visits may initially be required
Due to the collaborative nature of the work environment, the spontaneous need for idea generation and execution, and the potential for expedited remediation's, responses, or information gathering, in-person, in-office attendance is an essential function of this position the first 12 months.
