Job DescriptionJob Description

Manage and participate in the generation of thorough structural engineering calculations, contract documents including narratives, specifications, sketches, AutoCAD and Revit drawings, estimating, construction submittal and RFI review, structural condition assessment and reporting. Responsibilities include the completion of projects within budget and schedule requirements, checking and review of delegated work as well as reasonableness of results and seeking help and guidance in advance of when you need it. Additionally, participation in and documenting of client contact including phones calls and meetings, and preparation of fee proposals.

This diverse experience aids in passing the SE examination. Learning Opportunities: Our small firm has a budget for training many times that of the national average for structural firms. This includes study programs for the SE exam, advanced structural design classes, and specialized training such as blast and progressive collapse design, rope access, FAA Drone License, waterproofing, roof inspection etc. At a large firm, you may have a hard time having the company sponsor your learning, not to mention attendance at industry conferences. Access to Upper management: At our small firm you will have direct access to the founder Scott Weiland PE SE from whom you will receive mentoring and training from a 40+ year structural and waterproofing engineering veteran. Your closed-door office will be just down the hall from his. Our small firm has much more transparency than a large firm where you may be the last to know if the firm is facing slow or uncertain times. Also, at large firms, you may be lucky to someday meet the corporate executives. Faster Advancement: Access to upper management also allows them to monitor and mentor your progress, which results in quicker advancement and higher compensation for high performing staff. Larger firms may stifle your progress with set time frames for advancement. Job Security: With our controlled growth and flexibility, our small firm has never had any layoffs due to lack of work. This includes the “Great Recession”. In fact, during the “Great Recession” our small firm borrowed several engineers from a premier large firm in town.
