POSITION SUMMARY Marathon Petroleum Company's Illinois Refining Division (IRD) is seeking dedicated and skilled Crane Operators to join our dynamic team. The position demands a high level of responsibility for the safe operation and routine maintenance of various cranes and other heavy equipment. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to navigate complex tasks with autonomy and precision in a dynamic work setting. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Operate a range of cranes and heavy equipment, including backhoes, forklifts, and truck-mounted units, ensuring operational excellence and safety. Manage and input data within our digital systems to track equipment use and maintenance schedules. Collaborate with departments across the refinery, such as maintenance, environmental, and operations, to facilitate scheduled work and uphold compliance standards. Conduct thorough inspections of equipment to maintain high safety and performance standards. Develop, assess, and update operational procedures, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Maintenance Action Plans (MAPs), Best Management Practices (BMPs), and Safety Procedures (SPs). Maintain up-to-date qualifications, certifications, and training relevant to crane operation and safety. Stay informed on Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to ensure full compliance. Provide support during Turnarounds and Project executions, contributing to the refinery's operational efficiency. Engage actively in safety meetings at the start of each shift and participate in comprehensive field safety audits. Acquire and maintain knowledge of industry codes, standards, and MPC specifications related to crane and mobile equipment operation. Partner with contractors and third-party vendors to coordinate and execute tasks effectively. Manage the permitting process for lifting and hoisting activities in accordance with SP-13 guidelines (critical lifts, ALKY Lift analysis, permitted lifts, personnel lifts, electrical lifts), including involvement in What-if drills and pre-lift meetings. Ensure the accurate completion and closure of work orders, and communicate daily updates on workforce activities, achievements, and challenges to supervisory staff. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum (Required) Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent. Valid NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) Qualification, or NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) for operating large and small hydraulic cranes. A valid Driver's License. Availability for a Monday-Thursday 10-hour shift schedule, routine on-call support, and off-hour duties such as plant turnarounds and shutdowns as required. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future. Preferred Qualifications Five plus years' experience in crane operations. Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (CDL will be required within first year of employment). Experience operating cranes with capacities up to 160 tons. Demonstrates punctuality, teamwork, and self-motivation. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work performed at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt and piping surfaces, while climbing over 75 feet, lifting 40 pounds plus, carrying 10-20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance and working in confined spaces, wearing proper safety equipment, including a self-contained breathing apparatus as necessary, use hand tools, and work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. PAY AND BENEFITS This position belongs to a progression of job titles and pay rates. Starting pay rate is between $36.26 - $42.90 with a current top rate of $50.70.
