Description

The South Bay Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (SBWIB, Inc.) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Accountant II to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, be detailed orientated, and have an extensive accounting background. This role is critical for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements, overseeing various accounting functions, and providing strategic insights to support business objectives. The Senior Accountant II will also be expected to demonstrate exceptional leadership, setting a strong example for staff members while providing guidance and mentorship as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Under the direction of the CFO, the duties of a Senior Accountant II include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with supervising and mentoring junior/lead accounting staff, providing expert guidance and support for their professional development.
  • Conduct advanced training sessions for accountants and fiscal team members.
  • Prepare and review complex financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Allocate and reconcile complex administrative and program revenues and expenses.
  • Prepare, analyze, and manage financial reports, budgets, and invoices for Federal, State, and Local program funding with precision.
  • Prepare and review detailed journal entries to ensure accurate accounting for all costs and receipts.
  • Utilize advanced features of Microsoft Excel, Intuit QuickBooks, and Paychex payroll software for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Complete high-level administrative accounting tasks, including budgeting and forecasting, and providing financial insights and recommendations.
  • Perform detailed analysis of financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and file regulatory reports and tax returns in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliations and adjustments.
  • Assist with external audits by coordinating with auditors to provide necessary documentation, and address any findings.
  • Conduct in-person and desk monitoring visits to evaluate subcontractor compliance and accounting practices.
  • Maintain and oversee the organization of comprehensive accounting records and documentation.
  • Address complex inquiries and manage communications with internal team members, subcontractors, funding agencies, and other external partners.
  • Provide advanced training and mentorship on monitoring and compliance procedures.
  • Develop, review, and manage complex budgets and financial plans.
  • Create and deliver advanced training materials and sessions for sub-recipients and training providers.
  • Lead special projects and strategic financial initiatives as assigned by the CFO.
  • Serve as an authorized signer for high-level fiscal matters.
  • Participate in and lead new hire interviews.
  • Assess current policies and processes, identify gaps, and collaborate with the CFO and/or designated team members to establish and implement uniform departmental protocols and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating a high level of expertise and leadership in accounting functions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive accounting experience in a leadership role or senior accounting position; extensive experience in financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliation, and complex financial transactions and audits. Experience with Nonprofit accounting is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Intuit QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience with financial statement preparation and in-depth analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision and exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate dependability, promptness, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including mentoring and guiding junior staff, with an ongoing ability to effectively interact with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders.
  • Experience in providing strategic insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Experience with high-level financial analysis and policy development.
  • Experience in developing and implementing accounting policies and processes.

Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a standard 40-hour workweek. The starting hourly rate will be commensurate with experience. Our Company offers a comprehensive employee benefits package, which includes 75% coverage for medical, dental, and vision costs for employees only; sick and vacation time; holidays, and a competitive 401k plan. Eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Employees are eligible to enroll in the company's health benefits package after completing the 60-90-day employment introductory period.
