Job Description

Roanoke College's Freshens is a fast-paced , "fresh casual" healthy food concept, that is currently hiring for Full and Part-Time Team Member Freshens offers prepared to order food inspired by fresh ingredients as well as our signature fresh blended smoothies. We are located in the heart of downtown Salem, at the edge of Roanoke College's main campus. Freshens serves guests both from the college and the community.

The Freshens Team Member plays a vital role in helping us achieve our mission to provide excellent hospitality experiences to all of our guests. They will offer welcoming, genuinely friendly face-to-face service, and prepared-to-order sandwiches, bowls, salads, wraps, and smoothies in a clean and welcoming environment. They are responsible for ensuring that food is prepared accurately and timely, in an attractive and an appetizing manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Serves as a representative of Roanoke College, displaying courtesy, tact and respect in all interaction with out students, members of the RC community and with the general public.
  2. Serve guests with enthusiasm.
  3. Prepare and serve food and beverages to operations standards, with strict adherence to recipes.
  4. Apply and enforce proper methods of safety and sanitation as instructed by the VDH and Management.
  5. Ensure cleanliness and proper storage of all dishware, equipment, and utensils.
  6. Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen area and seating areas.
  7. Responsible for prepping and stocking food, beverage, and non-food items next shift and following day.
  8. Operate point-of-sale/cash register, as well as kitchen appliances and warewashing equipment.
  9. Complete station assignment responsibilities and help elsewhere as needed.
  10. Work positively with co-workers and supervisors.
  11. Follow policy and procedures as established by Dining Services.
  12. Performs other duties as required.
Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Ability to see, speak and hear
  2. Continuous standing with consistent walking
  3. Ability to work for long periods of time, regularly 9 hours and longer on some days
  4. Ability to reach, bend and stoop
  5. Continuous use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills
  6. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds with assistance
  7. Ability to work in a fast-paced food service environment

Our staff must display courtesy, tact and respect in all interactions with our students, members of the RC community, and with the general public. This 9 month position follows the academic calendar. Must be able to work every other weekend. Uniforms and non-slip safety shoe allowance provided, along with a free meal on scheduled work days. Part-time employees are able to use campus facilities such as the fitness center and library, receive a discount at the campus store, have free admissions to campus athletics, programs and more.
