Job Summary and Qualifications

The Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for managing and supervising all operational activities of the Department of Pharmacy Services through supervision of Pharmacists, Technicians, and supportive staff. The Manager oversees all operations and coordinates workflow of the pharmacy department. They serve as administrative officer in conjunction with Pharmacy Director.

What qualifications you will need:

  • B.S. in pharmacy required; Pharm.D preferred
  • MBA or MS preferred
  • 3 years experience in hospital pharmacy and management experience preferred
  • Tennessee Pharmacy License required

What you will do in this role:

  • Coordinate and oversee departmental operations on a daily basis.
  • Ensure adherence to all Board of Pharmacy, JCAHO, CMS and FDA standards.
  • Assist in preparation of annual pharmacy operating budget
  • Manage, direct, and actively participate in procurement, receiving, and billing functions. (including ECHO and SMART)
  • Maintain operating expenses based on an annual operating budget.
  • Lead the interviewing, hiring, orientation, and training of all pharmacy employees.
  • Assist and coordinate development of all policies and procedures and ensure they are being followed by pharmacy staff.
  • Collaborate with the director on inventory management.
  • Maintain effective communication with customers, co-workers and team members.
  • Articulate daily activities that support continuous quality improvement of patient care.
  • Prepare written or oral reports at change of shift to communicate incomplete assignments and potential patient safety concerns in order to ensure continuity of medication therapy.
  • Assist in coordination of controlled substance monitoring and surveillance.
  • Ensure that all packaging equipment and automation is properly maintained.
  • Participate in performance improvement, fiscal and productivity goals and objectives with leadership team.
  • Ensure pharmacy operations meet all department mandated timeframes and deadlines.
  • Help to implement any new local level or higher pharmacy strategy designed to strengthen the pharmacy program.
