Summary: The Mechanical Design Engineer will be a key member of the engineering team. Using design expertise and abilities rooted in solid engineering principles, this engineer will be responsible for the design and development of equipment used in offshore / subsea oil & gas field development projects with minimal supervision. They will also be expected to work with other engineers, designers, fabricators, suppliers and clients to construct, test and validate the equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Completes mechanical designs of complex equipment used in offshore oil & gas production system equipment.

Creates new product designs that meet expectations utilizing 3D CAD, preferably Solid works.

Performs design calculations to verify and validate design using conventional and computer aided methods.

Maintains current designs and seeks out opportunities to continuously improve current product.

Documents new designs and design modifications with appropriate documentation.

All work is completed with accuracy and attention to detail.

Continually monitors due dates for designs and then releases designs and related documentation to meet these dates ensuring appropriate lead times for parts procurement to meet project schedule.

Able to perform complex troubleshooting on all applicable mechanical systems.

Performs hand or computer aided calculations as necessary to support design decisions.

Performs FEA analysis as required to support design decisions.

Supports Purchasing department with sourcing suggestions, alternative manufacturing methods, part substitution evaluations, vendor proposal evaluations, etc.

Supports Sales department by investigating new designs in response to customer requests, help with bid research, technical support for customer visits, etc.

Supports Manufacturing with troubleshooting advice, writing procedures for maintenance, operation, and designs for field modifications, etc.

Maintains current knowledge of system offerings and emerging design technologies in the oil and gas industry.

Interacts extensively with manufacturing to maintain familiarity with manufacturing operations and staff.

Supports all designs throughout the production process.

Ability to work fast, efficiently and effectively within a compressed manufacturing time schedule to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise in the production process.

Makes material and process recommendations.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

BSc in Engineering or equivalent;

5 years of relevant experience required;

Experience in the offshore / subsea oil & gas industry highly desirable;

Experience in the implementation and continuous enforcement of systems and methodologies to drive continuous improvements, operational optimization, and achievement of company objectives;

Experience building relationships with customers and team members required.

Experience working as a project engineer matrix environment preferred.

Currently eligible to work in the United States.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Successful track record of design and development;

Strong verbal and written communication skills;

Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs;

Excellent working knowledge of engineering programs, such as SolidWorks, ANSYS;

Impeccable reputation and high ethical standards;

Knowledge and understand of FCPA requirements;

Self-motivated and willing to take initiative with limited direction;

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities:

Supervise and lead designers, drafters and junior engineers.

Physical Demands:

Physical requirements are those typically found in an office environment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Safety glasses and other PPE as required by work location.

Location and Work Environment:

This position is located in Houston.

Travel to client's offices, suppliers, and construction sites as needed to support company operations and interface with customers.
