We are looking to hire a Community & Volunteer Engagement Specialist to join the Development team
As the Community & Volunteer Engagement Specialist (C&VES), you will be responsible for implementing the successful coordination of the agency’s community outreach, partnerships, volunteer, and in-kind initiatives. As the C&VES, you will work collaboratively with the Development and Communications team and with program staff to maximize the agency’s effectiveness and build its capacity.

This position has a starting salary of low to mid 50s.
In this role, you will:
Build and cultivate partnerships with existing and potential community and business groups.
Coordinate and conduct outreach in the business, civic, and faith sectors to promote agency’s visibility in the community, including:
Identify and seek opportunities, including speaking engagements, to engage with and raise visibility in the community.
Coordinate successful engagement opportunities such as in-kind drives and volunteer activities and provide efficient internal operations to support these activities.
Provide community engagement content to Communications for publicity (e.g. social media, website, newsletters, etc.) to enhance visibility of the agency and donor.
Follow up after community events and activities to acknowledge the entity’s contribution to the agency.
Collaborate with program staff to identify volunteer and in-kind activities that meet shared goals, to monitor performance, progress, suitability and efficiency.
Collaborate within the Development and Communications department to identify agency needs, build volunteer capacity, coordinate outreach and solicit community support.
Proactively recruit volunteers through targeted and general community markets.
Screen and place volunteers in roles that are most suitable to their skills, interests, and motivations and that meet agency needs and goals.
Facilitate in-kind donations to support the supply needs of program and agency.
Collaborate with community & volunteer engagement staff to ensure an effective, consistent, and high quality agency volunteer engagement program.
Develop or assist in the development of new opportunities that support the agency and department’s strategic goals.
Track volunteer and in-kind statistics and community engagement progress for outcome reports.
Participate in regular supervision with supervisor by providing regular updates.
Maintain files in accordance with program requirements and NVFS guidelines.
Maintain current level of knowledge of agency programs and events.
May include serving collaboratively as a member of community councils and initiatives.
May include driving agency vehicle to transport supplies and/or people in order to cultivate community relationships.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May be assigned to supervise, train, support, and/or collaborate with volunteer(s) and/or intern(s).
Your Background :
We understand that you may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences.
Prefer one of the following:
At least two (2) years of related experience in community and/or volunteer engagement; or
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or
A combination of related experience and a degree
Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build trust, rapport and maintain relationships; must be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, external constituencies and community partners
Ability to understand and effectively communicate program and agency information, impact, and engagement opportunities
Strong communication skills including comfort using the phone, public speaking and presentation skills
Proficiency in use of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, and internet, virtual meeting and learning platforms; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Oral and written fluency in English; Spanish language fluency a plus
Familiarity with Northern Virginia region preferred
Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of background checks required upon hire
Ability and willingness to work outside of normal business hours as needed
Must have reliable transportation to conduct outreach efforts and attend community events
May be called upon to drive agency vehicle to transport supplies and/or people if clear Motor Vehicle Record and valid U.S. driver’s license.
