Job Description

Our Lewiston, ID location is seeking an Engineer to join our team. This position is to provide technical assistance in the production, transfer, storage, handling, and processing of ammunition components and to oversee the development of chemical processes such as wash, etch, nickel plating and copper plating.

Responsibilities

• Provide analytical and engineering support to our copper plating nickel plating and metal wash departments
• Design experiments to improve copper plating and wash process consistency.
• Provide technical assistance to operations and support to engineering peers.
• Ammunition testing in a variety of firearms will be required.
• Ensure compliance with all EPA, DEQ, EOS, and DoD specifications and protocols.
• Develop procedures for chemical testing and evaluation that align with department needs.
• Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Production Process Specifications, Supplier Requirements, Engineering Document Control, Hazards Analysis, Project Feasibility Evaluations, and Full Process Release Reviews as necessary for project completions.
• Balance multiple projects across several departments while working with a variety of leaders and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Requires BA/BS in Engineering.. Opportunities for industry specific training will supplement a candidate's scientific background.
• College chemistry including courses in Analytical, Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry.
• A high level of communications & presentation skills.
• Computer experience with MS Excel & MS Access.
• Strong personal relationship skills to work with vendors, internal customers and production crews.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

• Experience in plating, surface coatings and metal forming operations.
• Experience in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Process Engineering.

• Electroplating experience preferred.
• Experience with the chemical and mechanical processes involved in the high-volume production of ammunition.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Firearms and ammunition handloading experience.
• Interest in outdoor activities and a desire to work in the Lewis-Clark valley.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

Physical Requirements: Employee will be sitting, standing and walking, transitioning between experimental work and data analysis. Lifting objects over 10 lbs, carrying, stooping, and kneeling to facilitate hands-on testing. Some work outdoors. Manual dexterity for extensive computer work and writing. Hearing, speaking and vision are required.

Mental Requirements: Must communicate effectively in verbal and written formats. Excellent analytical and conceptualization skills. Ability to effectively deal with a variety of personalities and situations and to handle interruptions and multiple projects simultaneously. Quick thinking and problem solving to readily assimilate information. Ability to maintain tact and professionalism. Initiative to effectively complete tasks with little supervision. Ability to identify and appropriately handle confidential information.

Equipment Used: Telephone, personal computer, copy machine, printer, and various laboratory and measurement equipment.

Working Environment: Work is done in both an office environment, and in the manufacturing plant. This exposure subjects incumbents to temperature changes, dirt, dust, noise, vibration, moving objects and mechanical parts, machine tool lubricant mists, equipment and explosive hazards. Co-worker support, guidance and reinforcement are readily available.
