Position Overview

Ensure all employees are properly trained on and follow safety policies and procedures. Ensure plant policy and incident reporting practice conforms to all applicable legal requirements. Identify and lead projects to correct and prevent EHS risks in plant. Perform EHS event investigation, reporting, and recommendations for correction. Lead and participate in plant Behavior Based Safety program, plant safety committee, and plant 5S housekeeping and compliance program. Lead training of employees in EHS topics. Advise on emergency preparedness and response activities, drill planning and execution, training and communications. Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of constantly changing environmental regulations and initiating actions to ensure compliance with these regulations having responsibility for the coordination of the plants’ environmental monitoring, environmental training, and waste management programs. Prepare documents required by Federal and State law in the environmental pollution control arena. Penalties for violating regulations can result in fines ranging from $1,500 to $50,000 per day. Develop audit protocols and coordinate audits with global or regional resources. Act as a key environmental resource, responsible for maintaining compliance to applicable environmental regulations with a focus on air quality. Work with federal, state, and local authorities associated with environmental risks resulting from the aluminum recycling process. Investigate environmental problems and ensure that corrective and preventive actions are assigned and performed. This requires maintaining a daily awareness of the activities of production, maintenance, and on-site contractor operations to identify potential environmental issues before they occur. Support and participate in all aspects of the Berea management system including daily, weekly, monthly performance reporting meetings, business strategic steering committee, and continuous improvement projects and initiatives. Maintain a relationship with Novelis regional and global EHS support teams and own companywide EHS initiatives at the plant level. Manage EHS operational budget and cost center. Qualifications/Skills:

BS/BA in a related field (Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or Engineering) Strong interpersonal effectiveness, ability to influence, and leadership are required. Effective communication, remaining positive in times of upset condition, time management, teamwork are required. Effective task management, delegation, and follow-up to ensure all incident and regulatory reporting, corrective actions, audits, and improvement initiatives are executed and dealt with effectively and on time. Human Resource interaction and skills are very important, as the incumbent must work seamlessly with the Operations, Maintenance/Engineering, Process, Supply Chain, and all administrative support departments. Strong understanding/familiarity of state and federal air and environmental programs, regulations, and permitting is required. A high level of effectiveness in human relations skills and ability to clearly communicate is necessary and will often determine the extent to which the principal accountabilities will be met. Must be a self-starter, able to work independently, and work with all levels of the workforce to help provide them with information to run the business. Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment Proficiency in computer skills and software applications, particularly Microsoft Office and ERP systems. Novelis’ Berea facility is located in Berea Kentucky near Lexington. With 140 employees the recycling facility processes approximately 20 percent of all aluminum cans recycled in the United States each year – more than 750 million pounds.
