Summary:

Perform all routine, special, and vascular ultrasound procedures while working under the direction of the radiologist. Provide patients with safe, courteous and efficient care. Assist in other sections of the department as needed.

Position Reports To: Radiology Manager

Essential Functions:
  1. Prepares for and performs diagnostic medical sonography examinations and procedures in accordance with professional and facility protocols in a safe manner as instructed.
  2. Maintains the cleanliness of the ultrasound unit and associated minor equipment in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
  3. Displays proper sterile technique for surgery & biopsy procedures.
  4. Places lab specimens in proper location with proper labeling and forms filled in with correct patient information.
  5. Use proper patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition or musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer.
  6. Required to take standby and be on call as needed. If on call, will be available within 20 minutes of notification of need.
  7. Utilizes PACS, RIS, and current EMR efficiently and completes required paperwork for each examination performed.
  8. Maintains licensures/certifications in current and good standing and complies with all continuing education requirements as dictated by regulatory entities.
  9. Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • An education program approved by the ARDMS with clinical experience in ultrasound.
  • ARDMS registered or registry eligible and actively pursuing registry in one or more special areas (OB/GYN, ABD). (If not registered, must be registered within 6 months of hire date.)
  • ARDMS registered in vascular technology or within one year of employment.

Desired:

  • A working knowledge of computers, accurate keyboarding skills, and email communication.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed at a work station desk and in patient exam and treatment rooms, where space may be limited and confined. Requires a combination of working independently and also working closely with others. Hours may be irregular at times; overtime may be required. Requires working under stressful conditions. General supervision is provided by the Practice Manager with additional instructions, guidance, and directions provided by the physicians or providers with whom the RN is working
