Salary: $17.30 - $22.58 HourlyLocation : Athens Animal Shelter, TXJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 39Division: Police DivisionDepartment: Animal ControlOpening Date: 04/10/2024Job Summary The Adoption Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating animal shelter functions related to animal adoptions, marketing, and outreach for the City of Athens Animal Shelter. Will implement all education efforts, and coordinate education activities with other local, state, federal, and non-governmental organization individuals, directly, or indirectly involved in achieving the City's animal educational goals. Essential Job Functions Actively engages with the public, as a positive representation of the shelter.Leads, coordinates, and manages the animal adoption program.Gains knowledge of animals and interacts with potential adopters to facilitate matches.Reviews adoption applications and performs conversational interviews of potential adopters.Knowledge of animal behavior issues and remedies, improving probability of successful adoptions.Assist customers with adoption applications.Update adoption media pages daily with new adoptions and adoption photos.Follow up with adopters to help ensure adoption success and reduce returns.Leads, coordinates, and manages the foster care program.Transports animals, cages, and other equipment to and from off-site events and storefront locations.Develops and maintains positive relationships with other shelters, rescues, and animal welfare organizations.Performs event set-up, provides care and cleaning of animals, transportation equipment, and paperwork for events and storefront adoption centers.Monitors the health of animals, identifies medical or behavioral conditions, and immediately reports to the Shelter Manger.Works diligently at off-site events with minimal supervision and direction.Follows all safety measures and policies, including proper animal restraints and reading animal behavioral cues, and promptly reports any safety incidents to the Shelter Coordinator.Performs special duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of animal control tools, techniques, and procedures.Knowledge of city and departmental policies and procedures.Knowledge of city and county geography.Knowledge of local, state and federal laws pertaining to animals.Knowledge of animal shelter management and records management systems.Knowledge of the feeding, vaccination, and care of animals.Knowledge of animal adoption procedures.Knowledge of animal foster procedures and programs.Skill in observing and caring for animals.Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.Skill preparing and maintaining records and reports.Skill in oral and written communication.
