What's your day like?

As a Broadband Network Specialist at the City of Pharr, you'll play an essential role in ensuring the seamless operation of our private and public FTTH fiber optic, wired, and wireless networks. Your primary responsibility will be to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues, as well as perform routine maintenance. This hands-on position requires expertise in cutting, splicing, and terminating fiber optic cables while documenting processes accurately. You'll locate problem areas, conduct repairs, and execute programming and diagnostics tasks. In addition, you'll provide technical support to end-users, guiding them on network systems and the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of network and fiber optic systems.

Your technical acumen will extend to the installation and configuration of video surveillance equipment and training users on optimal software and hardware setups, ensuring a robust and efficient networking experience for all city residents.
Requirements for this Broadband Network Specialist job

To thrive as a Broadband Network Specialist with the City of Pharr, a diverse skill set is essential. You must be well-versed in the principles and practices of fiber to the home/premise networks, as well as possess knowledge in managing and monitoring both local and wide area networks. Familiarity with wireless networks and the utilization of network diagnostic tools is crucial for effective problem resolution in broadband ISP environments.

Additionally, your ability to adapt to a fast-paced work setting while managing multiple tasks and projects will be vital for success. Strong proficiency in computer software-particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel-is necessary for documentation and reporting. A customer-service orientation with a friendly demeanor and professional appearance is essential, alongside skills in operating job-related networking and diagnostic equipment.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Must be knowledgeable on the practices and principles of fiber to the home/premise networks.
