Description Under general supervision, prepares patients for and performs M.R.I. examinations.Core CompetenciesDemonstrates competence in the ALARA safety principle at all times.Displays flexibility, team spirit, compassion, respect, politeness and accountability when dealing with customers.Demonstrates knowledge of clinical norms for all age groups as applicable to job functions.Completes all assigned procedures in a timely manner and uses time between procedures to department advantage assisting others, clerical duties, stocking, transporting, etcUtilizes Hospital Information System (HIS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS.Answers telephone inquiries, of a technical nature, from doctors of hospital personnel in other areas of the hospital.Maintains a safe working environment: Keeps work area clean and free of hazards. Alerts appropriate resource of faulty or broken equipment. Observes all safety guidelines. Recognizes and reports unsafe actsAssumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice including maintaining current licensure and completing educational requirements.Understands his/her role in maintaining medication security to authorized personnel only.Adheres to infection control guidelines: uses good handwashing technique, adheres to isolation policy, cleaning equipment between patients.Assists student technologist who may rotate through the MRI scanning area.Transports and moves patients using appropriate body mechanics and safety precautions. Demonstrates knowledge and practice of safe patient handling devices.Follows Universal Protocol by using two patient identifiers prior to working with a patient. Uses the appropriate hand off communication techniques (SBAR) when bringing patients to and from the department.Provides patient and family with information/ instructions regarding procedure, evaluating barriers to understanding.Evaluates patients medical histories and clinical data.Determines need for translation services or communication aides and arranges for the appropriate resources to meet these needs.Department Specific CompetenciesPerforms the duties of a MRI technologist.Uses MRI safety at all times. Watch MRIS safety video before working in MRI.Screens and interviews patients about to undergo MRI examinations.Screens visitors, other hospital employees and anyone entering the 5 Gauss line with any and all ferromagnetic materials, pacemakers, ID badges, tools, etc.Enforces safety policies regarding MRI scanning, makes self aware of all administrative policies with regard to departmental procedures, protocols, care and proper cleaning of equipment.Assumes on-call status and call back as assigned, responding within 30 minutes of receiving call.Assists and supports a new or transferred employee through a planned orientation to a specific clinical area.Follows Lean principles and creates SOPs for the Department as needed.Participates in department or facility performance improvement activities and interdepartmental projects as appropriateKeeps a daily record of helium and nitrogen levels in logbook and enters all variance or failure.Keeps assigned work areas clean and office/medical supplies stocked. Reorders through appropriate personnel when supplies are low.Adheres to infection control guidelines: uses good handwashing techique, adheres to isolation policy, cleaning equipment between patients.Demonstrates competency in providing monitoring equipment used during exams.Corrects supplies are charged and tech notes are written at the completion of each exam in RIS.Maintains constant communication with patient during procedure.Demonstrates competency and proficiency in proper sequencing and positioning of all exams and procedures.Ensures patients knowledge of post procedural instructions.EducationDegreeProgramN/AN/AAdditional InformationCompletion of a formal Radiology technology training program or Formal MRI training program.ExperienceNumber of Years ExperienceType of Experience1MRI TechAdditional InformationCRT may be substituted in place of ARRT or for employees hired prior to 1/15/18License / Certification RequirementsARRT and/or ARMRIT CertificationAdvanced MRI certification from ARRT within 2 years of hireBCLS or ACLS CertificationCompensation:$56.53
