Job Summary:
Independently performs qualitative and quantitative tests in assigned section(s), following established guidelines and predetermined criteria. Performs tests and calculations, documents and reports results. Follows established QA/QC policies and procedures. Operates, calibrates, conducts performance checks and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment. Maintains procedures, records and logs. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or results and uses knowledge, deductive skills and judgment to troubleshoot and resolve them. Recognizes abnormal or unusual pre-analytical, post-analytical and post-analytical problems
Job Responsibilities:
  • Under general supervision, performs the tests ordered in the specific laboratory section(s) as assigned. Sections include chemistry, hematology, transfusion service, and microbiology.
  • Access to coordinator or other professional personnel is required.
  • May assist CLA's and other technical team.
  • Other duties assigned
Education:
  • Medical Technologist - Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science and successful completion of an approved Medical Technology internship program, OR
  • Medical Laboratory Technician - High school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited college or university and completion of a clinical laboratory internship preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Certified as an MT/MLS or MLT by one of the National Commission of Health Certifying Agencies or by an agency recognized by the Hawaii Department of Health Laboratories Branch.
  • State license as a Technologist or Technician.
Skills:
•Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in verbal and written form.
•Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team.
•Excellent customer service skills.

Other:
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to, lab coats, gloves, face shields. Will be completing a mask fitting upon hire.
