Job Description:

Role Summary:

Responsible for leading a team of highly skilled technical professionals focused on process development for the company. The group is involved in defining next generation technology, optimizing performance of our existing processes, improving fundamental understanding of unit operations involved and supporting scale-up of new and novel products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 30% People and Talent Management
    • Plan staffing levels aligned with budget and business needs.
    • Interview, select, and hire people, managers and key technical talent.
    • Provide oversight and direction to the employees within full span of control in accordance with the organizational systems, processes, and procedures.
    • Lead employees using performance management processes and tools to engage and encourage employee contribution including goal setting, ongoing feedback, and annual performance reviews.
    • Effectively manage employee performance through ongoing feedback and recognition, rewards, and when necessary, disciplinary action with the support of HR.
    • Engage employees in career development planning and support growth and development to support functional talent management, including identification and development of a pipeline of future manager talent.
    • Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed.
    • Consciously create a team culture that emphasizes Axalta values and behaviors as well as business and functional guiding principles and vision.
    • Maintain employee work schedules including assignments, on the job training, vacation planning, and overtime scheduling.
    • Maintain transparent communication practices by appropriately communicating organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, email, IM, and regular interpersonal communication.
    • Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.
  • 30% Team Execution
    • Manages the overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities of the activities of the broader team. Lead employees to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.
    • Lead effective program management that successfully delivers results on time. Plan and implement systems that perform the work and fulfill the mission and the goals of the department efficiently and effectively.
    • Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals. Develop and implement staffing plans, budget proposals, and equipment requirements consistent with anticipated workloads.
    • Make business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
    • Provide oversight to ensure individual project accomplishments and overall work unit effectiveness is achieved relative to committed objectives. Provide leadership for staff development and hold staff accountable to meet individual and business objectives through establishment and measure of key performance indicators.
    • Plan, evaluate, and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output through Lean Principles and continuous improvement.
  • 30% Portfolio Management
    • Define process technology vision; translate the vision to a 3-5 year development program.
    • Participate in defining global process technology strategy and its implementation plan.
    • Effectively communicate with Technology Directors, Business management, Operations and customers and exhibit strong customer interface skills and responsiveness to meet customer needs.
    • Prepare reports and dashboards for management to track strategic goal accomplishment.
    • Communicate regularly and effectively within matrix organization.
  • 10% Technical Execution
    • Provide management oversight to deliver new technology solutions, improve attributes or quality of existing products, reduce flow-time, and improve productivity.
    • Lead technical teams to deliver on projects that support existing product lines and processes, and to develop new products and processes.
    • Direct technical research that leads to the understanding of coatings technology and processes and the relationships to paint formulation components


Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 8 years' progressive work experience in complex, matrix environment
  • 4 years' experience in managing technical professionals
  • Strong Process Technology and manufacturing acumen for specialty chemicals
  • Demonstrated ability for improving chemical processes through process development
  • Experience in process modeling and process automation
  • Business acumen and knowledge of basic economics and budgeting.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and organizational management skills.
  • Skilled at interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching and development skills.
  • Ability to serve as a knowledgeable resource to the organization's management team that provides leadership and direction.
  • General knowledge of various country employment laws and practices and employee relations.
  • Ability to practice a high level of confidentiality.
