Requirements
Position Summary
The Financial Counselor is responsible for representing the Revenue Cycle team by providing patients with a positive financial experience by helping patients navigate and understand insurance benefits and potential financial liability. Financial Counselor is the patient's point of contact for financial assistance questions. The Financial Counselor collects payments, sets up payment arrangements as appropriate, creates estimates, advises patients in person and over the phone on their insurance benefits and coverage, and in some cases, assesses patient referrals for appropriateness. The incumbent assists patients with eligibility for government programs, MGRMC's financial assistance program, and other options for managing high medical liabilities.
Independent judgment and decision making is required to address the full range of tasks and responsibilities. The position requires the ability to plan, schedule and organize numerous tasks that directly impact hospital and physician reimbursement.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Proof of highest level of education completed but not less than high school education or equivalent.
- One (1) year experience in Health Care Revenue Cycle, insurance, or
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of MGRMC staff and support personnel required.
- Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
- An understanding of computer systems, process design and data management.
- Must have a well-groomed, professional appearance.
- Must have the mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to lift, carry, pull, & push 50 pounds.
- Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal fluency.
- Two (2) years' experience in Healthcare Revenue Cycle (Admissions, Billing, Coding,)
- Experience using Meditech
- Experience using Waystar/Zirmed
Position Classification: Non-exempt
Compensation Range: $18.00 to $24.20
