Perform routine maintenance and other related work as required. Essential Duties Makes daily inspections and fuels bus as needed Drives a gasoline or diesel-powered school bus over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students in a safe manner. Transports students to and from field trips. Responsible for daily cleaning of interior of the bus and weekly cleaning of exterior of bus. Keeps a record of routine maintenance and submits daily report of condition of bus, makes other reports as required. Keeps a daily log of mileage. Enforces district policies and procedures and maintains discipline on buses. Renders first aid or emergency assistance as needed. Escorts students across streets, stopping traffic as needed. (Red lights on/with hand held stop sign) Reports all student disciplinary problems in writing to the transportation supervisor. Maintains all required licenses and certificates Performs other related duties as assigned May transport children with special needs and disabilities. Required Qualifications: Licenses, Certificates Valid California Class (B) Drivers License with Passenger Endorsement. Valid California School Bus Drivers Special Certificate Valid Medical Certificate approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles or the Federal Highway Adm. Of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Valid First Aid Certificate or C.H.P. First Aid Test Valid C.P.R. Card. Ability to: Drive a school bus and other transportation equipment safely and efficiently Maintain appropriate student behavior on a school bus or other transportation equipment Understand and carry out oral and written directions Ability to read and interpret maps, education and vehicle codes Perform appropriately in situations requiring tact and diplomacy Ability to communicate and work effectively with parents, teachers, students, and staff, in an open, friendly business-like manner Ability to use basic mechanic tools for minor items such as changing bus lights, replacing lost screws, etc. Physical ability to perform required duties. Desired Qualifications Knowledge of C.H.P. School Bus Driver handbook (#82.7) Knowledge of safe driving and defensive driving practices, state and local traffic laws and regulations Sufficient mobility to climb in and out of school buses and emergency exits and to maneuver students into and out of buses. Education High School Diploma or the equivalent Condition of Employment Participation in the Districts federally mandated drug and alcohol testing program. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Signing Bonus for New Hires during the 2021/22 School Year: For the 2021/22 school year, the District will offer a $500 signing bonus to all newly hired unit members during the 2021/22 school year. Unit members will be paid $250, in their first 2021/22 paycheck. The remaining $250 will be paid in December 2022, if the unit member is still in active paid status and has not submitted a resignation at the time of payroll submission.
