Colfax Elementary School District is located just 5 minutes off Interstate 80 along the Bear River in the Sierra Nevada foothills just below the Tahoe National Forest. Our one-school campus serves students in grades TK-8 with about two classes per grade level. Job Summary

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Program Specialist or designee, the Speech Language Pathologist identifies and evaluates students, age 3 to 8th Grade, with communication disabilities and plans and implements appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on a student's educational success.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
-Provide individual and group speech and language therapy, according to District established standards
-Evaluate student progress according to prescribed speech and language testing procedures by District personnel who have come into contact with the student in a learning situation
-Prepare written progress reports on each student for mid-year and end-of-year evaluations
-Hold group and individual parent conferences throughout the year to help parents develop a better understanding of the speech handicaps of their children and of the goals of the District speech program
-Provide a suitable learning environment and experience which attempts to enhance student attitudes regarding their speech disabilities and best utilize available instructional time
-Plan short and long-range goals to meet the needs of each individual student's IEP
-Screen and identify students with oral communication disabilities according to prescribed standards
-Refer students having organic difficulties such as voice disorders, mouth breathing, and hearing disabilities to the District Nurse
-Notify teachers and administrators of students who have been identified with speech and hearing disabilities, and develop an efficient schedule for working with identified students
-Utilize outside agencies and services as general resources and for specific cases requiring professional services beyond the level of the District speech program
-Maintains competence and awareness of current developments in the field of speech, hearing, and language therapy through participation in professional educational activities, meetings, and conferences.
-Communicate regularly with staf

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience as School Speech Therapist preferred
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university preferred

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license
Fingerprint and TB clearance required

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Normally located in a work environment with light physical qualifications and
requirements
Ability to lift 25 lbs. maximum or carry any object weighing up to 15 lbs
