**Description**
**JOB SUMMARY:** To effectively assist the team leader in training and supervise the activities of all grocery department personnel in conjunction with the Center Store Leader; to achieve the sales and profit goals established for the department; to ensure that the work shift contributes to the financial best interests of the store.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: **Operational**
* Monitor the receiving and unloading of merchandise to ensure that all department receiving accurately reflect the items and counts listed on vendor invoices, ensure accurate billing and pricing, routinely check products to confirm quality, count, and condition, and enforce receiving procedure according to company policy.
* Maintain proper ordering procedures according to company policy to ensure effective inventory control to maximize sales & turnover and to minimize over? and under? stocks.
* Order necessary supplies for the department on a regular basis.
* Handle damaged or distressed merchandise according to company policy and control the level of damaged goods in the department and warehouses.
* Submit required reports and surveys to the office on schedule or in a timely manner.
* Responsible for maintaining, safeguarding and forwarding all department?related accounting reports and documents to office per company policies and procedures.
* Responsible for shelf price audit procedures to ensure that all merchandise is correctly priced as listed in the store's pricing guide including all ad and promotional merchandise.
* Review invoice documents to confirm accuracy of item descriptions, sizes, quantities and pricing; ensure that they have been recorded on receiving log prior to submitting to office.
* Merchandise per company guideline/policy to build sales and gross. Plan, build and merchandise end displays to obtain maximum sales, profit and turnover.
* Implement procedures to ensure that all merchandise is properly rotated in accordance with product code dates and store policies.
**Leadership**
* Control excessive use of utilities and water and observe sound conservation practices.
* Handle customer complaints and provide him/her with satisfaction whenever possible.
* Observe all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations and ordinances.
* Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service and assistance.
* Manage pricing responsibilities for seasonal items, promotional items and ad merchandise to assures accuracy.
* Make schedules properly per store needs.
* Perform sales forecasts weekly and calculate number of man hours by job class that is required to properly staff work shifts based on projected sales volume and/or workloads.
* Implement procedures to ensure that department personnel keep all refrigerated coolers, store shelves and other displays fully stocked and faced to the maximum extent possible according to tag allocation and department standards.
* Interface with vendor sales representatives and submit recommendations to the store director according to company policies.
* Control ordering procedures to ensure that the department complies with company guidelines for inventory maintenance to minimize out?of?stocks and over?stocks and to maximize sales and turnover.
* Maintain and oversee housekeeping and sanitation program for department and sales floor.
* Ensure that all employees respond promptly to emergencies or potential safety hazards such as spills and broken glass or plastic containers that contain liquid products.
* Maintain equipment in good working order with all safeguards in place.
* Immediately advise the store director of any major maintenance or equipment problems.
* Supervise and train all department personnel to perform assignments according to job requirements while maintaining effective employee relations.
* Conduct job performance appraisals and evaluations of department personnel on a regular basis but not less than once per year.
* Notify the store director of personnel situations or policy violations having an adverse effect on department or store operating performance or of situations that require disciplinary action or that may potentially require such action.
* Perform any other work-related duties as assigned.
**Safety**
* Implement and maintain security program for front end and receiving areas in accordance with company standards and policies.
* Must actively use/manage the participation of axonify.
* Must comply with company safety observation policies.
**REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS:**
**Education/Experience**
* Minimum educational requirement is a high school education with a college background helpful and preferred (but not absolutely required nor credentialed).
* Should have at least one-year experience in the supermarket industry with a comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of store operations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Language Skills**
* Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and to be able to communicate effectively with others.
* Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to read and understand instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools, company handbooks, policies and procedures and other written job?related documents.
* Ability to compose and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals including effective departmental memos, employee corrective action notices, "menus", and customer signs or sales suggestions.
* Be fully knowledgeable and thoroughly familiar with the nature and duties of every staff position in the department including procedures, policies and operations.
* Be able to perform as well as supervise all duties and meet the requirements and conditions for both an experienced grocery clerk and an experienced produce clerk.
* Be able to pass a standard drug test and qualify as being drug?free under the legal and medical guidelines permitted by the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988.

* The work environment includes occasional exposure to noisy conditions in machine and compressor rooms, although typically, the noise level in the work environment is moderate.
