Advanced Clinician-Pediatric Physical Therapy-Mount Sinai Union Square-Full Time, Day Shift

The Advanced Clinician PT will perform all tasks of a Staff Physical Therapist. In addition, Advanced Clinicians will have demonstrated advanced knowledge, clinical expertise and a pursuit of continuing education. They will demonstrate the ability to teach other hospital staff their advanced clinical knowledge and skills. The area of clinical expertise will be applicable to a patient population with a demonstrated need and be beneficial to the growth of the rehabilitation department.

Responsibilities

All responsibilities of a Staff Physical Therapist, as listed below.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical skills, mentor staff, and serve as a resource for other staff members in all components of patient care specific to area of clinical expertise.
  • Provide patient care in an efficient manner and maintain a full patient caseload as per department discretion.
  • Maintain knowledge of current research and best practice guidelines applicable to area of expertise.
  • Pursue further education and credentialing in the area of clinical specialization.
  • Foster research, education, and interdepartmental growth opportunities as appropriate and available.
  • Clinical specialty must pertain to MSW/MSM patient population.
  • Performs initial examinations, selects appropriate assessment tests and measures, establishes appropriate goals, plans and implements treatment interventions, performs timely re-examinations and modifies goals and treatment interventions accordingly. Coordinates with other disciplines when indicated.
  • Provides treatment interventions to patients/clients that are safe, timely, effective, efficient, patient-centered, and equitable, in compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for all documentation requirements in a timely manner, i.e., initial examinations, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Provides training to families, caregivers, or medical personnel as indicated.
  • Recommends appropriate durable medical equipment in coordination with appropriate team members. Writes letters of medical necessity when indicated.
  • Participates in discharge planning, makes recommendations for continued physical therapy and provides home exercise programs when appropriate.
  • Identifies and provides appropriate strategies to educate patients so that environmental constraints, learning barriers, and cultural factors are addressed effectively.
  • Communicates findings with physicians and team in a prompt manner.
  • Coordinates and adjusts schedule according to department needs.
  • Maintains department productivity expectations.
  • Attends all appropriate conferences, rounds, in services and meetings.
  • Will be assigned additional patients in the event that coverage is necessary as dictated by staffing needs.
  • Participates in the supervision of PT Assistants, Mobility Aids, volunteers, and students.
  • Participates in the development of other staff members and in their training, as assigned.
  • Serves as a clinical instructor to students and participates in student lecture development.
  • Follows all MSM/MSW policies and procedures.
  • Identifies and provides appropriate strategies to educate patients so that environmental constraints, learning barriers, and cultural factors are addressed effectively.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills for age specific population such as: Neonate/Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. a. Identifies physical, behaviors and emotional characteristic typical for the age group. b. Modifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment c. Provides care for patients based on age-specific needs d. Uses communication techniques which are age appropriate
Organizational/Managerial
  • Participates in the department's performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
  • Observes the Health Care System's compliance policies.
  • Assists in maintenance of appropriate supply and inventory for the department.
  • Enters patient billing information daily and records statistical data as assigned.
  • Demonstrates above average organizational and time management skills necessary to complete the assigned duties.
Educational/Professional development
  • Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements.
  • Identifies learning strengths and needs.
  • Utilizes learning resources.
  • Plans and participates in in-service educational programs.
  • Attend a minimum of two continuing education courses per year.
  • Provides at least four educational in-services per year to rehabilitation and/or hospital staff members though in-services, journal club, manual seminars, etc.
  • Adheres to specific department dress code and hospital dress code.
  • Adheres to department hours.
  • During work hours performs those duties only relating to the department.
  • Adheres to department policies on attendance, sick days, vacation and personal time.
  • Practices competently in accordance with professional practice standards and expectation
Communication/ Relationships
  • Demonstrates a professional, courteous and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others.
  • Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community.
  • Effectively relates patients' status and progress to other health professionals.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned or perform other duties when necessary.
  • Able to communicate with all patients using hospital resources, such as language services, and communication devices.
  • Is open and responsive to the diverse backgrounds and experience of other people and promotes an environment that is sensitive to cultural diversity.
  • Respects and values each patient's unique, individual needs, beliefs, and diversity and incorporates these into delivery of care.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 4 years as full-time Physical Therapist with at least 2 years at Mount Sinai preferred
  • At least 1 year clinical experience with the specialty clinical population
  • Meets all other contract requirements
