General Summary

Drafter I prepares drawings or 3D models of simple, easily visualized material, hardware, and specimens. These are prepared from detailed mark-ups, sketches, or premade 3D models. Drawings and models fit familiar patterns and present few technical problems. Supervisor provides detailed instructions on new assignments, gives guidance when questions arise, and reviews completed work for accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Revise original drawings of existing materials, specimens, and hardware.
  • Create simple drawings for billet cutting plans, test specimens and hardware.
  • Produce or edit typical 3D models from mark-ups to reflect the requirements of the drawings.
  • Use On-Base software to track ECOs, generate drawing numbers and generate part numbers.
  • Store drawings and 3D models in PDM through checking files in/out.
  • Utilize PDM to track revisions and notify relevant people of approval processes.
  • Learn company drafting standards ANSI 14.5, drawing practices ASME 14.5 and SolidWorks templates.
  • Others may be added
Position Specific
  • Work with team members to clarify or resolve drafting requirement questions.
  • Primary participant in completing noncomplex ECOs with assistance as needed.
  • Print, file, and organize paper drawings or electronic copies.
  • Help maintain PDF library with guidance of supervisor.
  • Complete all safety training and ensure compliance.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • US Citizenship required
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain security clearance at a level equivalent to Department of Defense (DOD) SECRET
  • Associate Degree or Certification in CAD
  • SolidWorks software experience
  • Capable of managing workload and job functions with the assistance of EDG group members
  • Good communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated moderate level of knowledge/experience with SolidWorks.
  • SolidWorks PDM experience.

Work Environment & Conditions:

This position involves work in a large bay and are required to operate a variety of different testing apparatus. Could require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including:
  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection (varies based on tasks)
  • Protective Shoes/Shoe covers
Physical Demands:

In performing the work for this position, the engineer must be able to:
  • Perform work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Sit for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
  • Climb ladders and stairs in performing the work.
  • Walk for reasonable distances in performing the work.
