As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for hands-on design and development work of our sonar and marine systems. You will be involved in various stages of design from conceptual design through detailed design, while supporting procurement, build, and test activities as your design comes full circle reaching the execution and delivery stage. You will work as part of a team, and under the guidance of experienced engineers, executing design tasks on systems for use above and below water. Responsibilities include Solidworks CAD design of assemblies and components, material selection, structural and other analyses, design for manufacture, and component specifications. This role requires someone with critical thinking skills, highly motivated, and passionate about design work. Responsibilities Perform Mechanical Engineering design, development, and testing of GTI Marine and Sonar Systems. Participate in ship integration design and create interface control drawings and related requirements specifications. Manage and allocate technical requirements. Participate in formal engineering design reviews. Coordinate and execute system verification activities and engineering tests (functional, environmental, performance) including participation in field test events such as sea trials and subcontractor tests. Maintain, compile, and present verification evidence for customer acceptance events. Generate and maintain technical documentation to define system and subsystem configuration and interfaces. Review work of Junior designers or co-op students. Anticipate, identify, mitigate technical risks, roadblocks, and report to technical leadership and management. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical and software engineers. Participate in professional development and required company training. Ensure all documentation, processes, procedures, and production adhere to our Quality Management System. Participate in organizational occupational health and safety education, prevention, promotion, and reporting. Qualifications Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Minimum of 3 years of design experience. Registered as an Engineering-in-Training with Engineers Nova Scotia. Experience in systems engineering, testing, marine or underwater component design, or Finite Element Analysis considered an asset. Experience drafting engineering documentation. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
