Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Accountant with G/L Governance experience for a contract (with the option to hire) in Gaithersburg, MD. This role will work onsite/in the office 4 days per week in Gaithersburg, MD and 1 day per week to work remotely.
In this role, you will be responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and completeness over month end close activities and general ledger (G/L) data in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Additional responsibilities include:
- Manage the month end close process which includes but is not limited to the following: preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis and key accounting reports
- Resolve accounting process issues and adjust procedures to complete tasks efficiently and accurately
- Oversight of manual journal entry and balance sheet account reconciliation controls for the organization
- Complete balance sheet account deep dives to identify inherent risk level, potential exposure and recommend/document best reconciliation approach based on these attributes
- Assist with the coordination of internal and external audits
- Ensure all accounting, reporting and audit deadlines are met
- Jointly responsible for updating and creating accounting policies and procedures required within G/L and Closing team
- Seek out and continue to look for ways that G/L and closing processes can be automated or improved to create and improve efficiency across the accounting/finance organization
- Participate in driving results to meet individual, team, and department objectives
- Involvement in other projects as needed
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 8+ years of related accounting experience with a focus on month end close, journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, master data - predominately at large, multi-national public companies
- 5+ years of intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vLookups), Word, SharePoint
- Master's degree in Accounting
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Public accounting experience
- SAP experience
- Strong analytical skills, research skills, and business acumen
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-starter with proven ability to spearhead projects with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in planning, prioritizing, delivering on commitments
- Comfort working through ambiguity and in a rapidly changing environment
- Strong communication skills
Additional Information
