Overview The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a visionary Director of Equipment Operations to lead the management of our statewide equipment fleet. In this pivotal role, you will be the primary architect of UDOTs equipment strategy, ensuring that our teams have the reliable, modern, and cost-effective tools necessary to keep Utah moving. You will bridge the gap between high-level fiscal responsibility and the practical operational needs of our various regions. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership: Provide centralized oversight and accountability for the total lifecycle of equipmentfrom acquisition and utilization to maintenance and surplus. Fleet Optimization: Develop and manage a comprehensive, data-driven fleet management program for both light vehicles and heavy maintenance equipment. Procurement & Compliance: Oversee large-scale equipment purchases, ensuring strict adherence to State procurement policies while maintaining strong alignment with regional operational needs. Performance Management: Establish KPIs for equipment uptime, maintenance efficiency to ensure the division remains lean and effective. Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between UDOT leadership, regional shops, and state procurement offices to harmonize equipment standards across the agency. Minimum Qualifications Education & Professional Experience: A Bachelors degree (or higher) from an accredited institution in a related field (such as Business, Logistics, Engineering, or Public Administration) AND at least ten (10) years of professional experience in fleet operations, logistics, or a closely related field. Note: Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis (e.g., 14 years of total related experience if no degree is held). Leadership Background: Experience must include significant responsibility in high-level decision-making, budget oversight, or personnel management. Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated experience navigating complex procurement policies and ensuring organizational compliance with state or federal regulations. Supplemental Information Please review these important details: Work Environment Working Conditions - While the typical risks are those of an office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., there will be field work. Physical Requirements: Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some field work which may include walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
