Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the structural design of steel and concrete structures related to marine terminals, industrial, bulk material handling, process, petrochemical, refinery and oil & gas facilities.

This includes marine docks, foundations, retaining walls, structural steel platforms, bents and towers, steel buildings as well as modification to existing structures and deep/shallow foundation systems. This involves computer modeling of structures from conceptual engineering through construction using software such as RISA , Staad, and/or SACS.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Design of pipe and tray supports;
• Design of reinforced concrete paving, beams and columns and/or foundations;
• Design of deep and/or shallow foundations;
• Design of steel jacket for dock and mooring/berthing structures in water with piles;
• Design of personnel walkway, truss or pipe, stairs, handrails and ladders;
• Design of conveyor truss, gallery or deck truss type with or without personnel walkway;
• Design of conveyor bents and/or transfer towers;
• Design of monorail beams and/or monopiles with lateral loading for energy absorption;
• Design of lift eyes and size lift rigging;
• Dock layout design;
• Perform steel beam, column and/or connection calculations;
• Perform wind, seismic load and/or mooring calculations;
• Perform in place, transportation (acceleration), vibration, lift and/or vortex shed analysis;
• Perform pile soil interaction analysis;
• Perform 2d space frame and 3d frame analysis;
• Perform mooring analysis, individual mooring line and berthing analysis and specify mooring and/or berthing equipment;
• Create geotechnical, hydrographic and topographic scopes of work;
• Assist with dock inspection and assessment, analysis dock inspection results, determine recommendations, and create reports;
• Observe and record construction activities as well as assist with review of construction documents and construction submittals;
• Industrial building inspection and assessment;
• Stress-skin building design utilizing 3d modeling;
• Collect data and gather/log information and documents;
• Facilitate or assist with project permitting to include applications and participate in project meetings with certifying agencies;
• Make notation during technical meetings and develop meeting minutes;
• Attend project discussions/internal meetings with other disciplines;
• Participate in project meeting/communications with clients.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Basic or Minimum Requirements
• Requires BS degree in Civil Engineering;
• For candidates with engineering degrees attained outside the U.S., the candidate must have attained an E.I.T. designation from a U.S. based state licensing board;
• Requires five (5) to ten (10) years' experience in engineering design related to job duties and responsibilities;
• Requires familiarity with total project systems to include mechanical, structural, civil and electrical components to allow considerations of those aspects into a project or design area;
• Requires previous experience with RISA, Staad, and/or SACS;
• Requires strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Requires availability and ability to travel to client sites and work overtime as needed based on project;
• Requires the availability and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously;
• Requires the ability to interact with staff at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications
• P.E. license preferred

Working Conditions:
• Work is conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private Office) and requires occasional travel to off-site work locations;
• Interaction with other team members as well as supervisor and client personnel;
• May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis to obtaining project field data or attend project meetings;
• Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant, facility or terminal environment which may include working in plant or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
• Field duties require outdoor work in a plant or construction atmosphere;
• Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
• May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes.

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift and carry twenty (20) pounds;
• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits employee to communicate effectively;
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time;
• Sufficient vision or other powers of observation which permits employee to conduct analysis and investigations;
• Sufficient manual dexterity which permit the employee to perform routine office duties;
• Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
