The Machinist must be able to read and interpret blueprints, do layout work, use precision measuring instruments, set up and operate machine shop equipment. Fabricate, construct, and repair machine parts for machinery and equipment. This position reports to a Maintenance Supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Work with ferrous and nonferrous metals, plastics, and other synthetic materials, such as carbon, rubber, wood, and fiber. Grinding compounds, lubricants, coolants, solvents, air, acetylene, oxygen, cleaners and welding materials, machine parts, assemblies, etc.
* Tools and equipment used are hand and power tools common to the trade. Computers and CNC equipment, all types of machine tools, precision measuring, layout and testing instruments and gauges. Heat treating equipment, acetylene torch, welding, and metalizing equipment. Material handling equipment such as hoists, fork trucks, cranes, and pickup trucks. Dynamic balancer, ultrasonic tester, Rockwell testing etc.
* Duties and working procedures are to set up, operate, and maintain shop equipment such as CNC lathes, conventional lathes, milling machines, grinders, shapes, drill presses and assorted power hand tools. Plan, layout, fabricate and repair parts to close tolerance using precision measuring equipment. Work from blueprints, diagrams, sketches, handbooks, and general instructions. Heat temper and otherwise finish dies, tools, and machine parts. Disassemble, assemble, repair, replace parts and make precise adjustments to equipment. Diagnose trouble and use ingenuity in solving mechanical problems. Fill out reports and other necessary paperwork. Performs operator service (PM's, lubes) to equipment and report defects. Work in a safe and orderly manner using items such as job safety procedures and SPC methods.
* Demonstrate the ability to comply with all plant PPE requirements and safety protocols.
* Assist in warehouse parts and inventory control.
* Assist in the upgrade of PM's and lubes through planning.
* Participate in the crew safety program and updating of the DMS board.
* Participate in out-of-schedule working hours i.e., fills-ins, breakdowns, and overhauls.
* Maintain job continuity.
* Communicate freely with the technician and supervisor.
* Utilize computer systems i.e. daily time entries, functions of the CMMS systems.
* Continue to upgrade oneself through education/skills associated with their trade.
* Maintain personal and company tools in a safe and usable condition at all times.
* Perform all assignments given by the supervisor, i.e.; assist the planner in job planning, perform duties as a "troubleshooter," work with Maintenance Technical Advisors and Reliability Engineers in making changes/modifications for improvements, etc.
* Participate in area problem solving and actively participate in the reliability process.
* Assist supervisor in application of ABS principles.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS
* Five years of Industrial Machinist experience.
* Formal apprenticeship or equipment machinist training is required.
* Knowledge and experience with:
o The manual lathe (approx. 65% of the machine shop work at the Mt. Holly plant is done on a manual lathe)
o Tolerances to the .000 in inches/meters +/-
o Knowledge of different fits (slip/press)
o Familiar with the machinist handbook and it's usage
o Heavy on print reading (99% of all the work done per drawing or sketches)
o Knowledge in metallurgy, along with heat treating

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The tasks listed are the most physically demanding tasks required of the Maintenance Machinist position.
* Standing - Worker stands on concrete (occasional basis)
* Walking - Worker is walking on concrete floors during the shift (occasional basis)
* Strength -
1. Lifting: Worker is required to lift objects on infrequent basis of up to 60 lbs. (3-4 times per week)
2. Carrying: Machine tools typically less than 25 lbs.

4. Climbing: Infrequent climbing of steps and straight ladders
* Balancing - Not required
* Bending - Infrequent
* Kneeling - Infrequent
* Crawling - Infrequent
* Reaching - Forward for operation of equipment to perform welding, cutting, milling and operate a lathe.
* Handling - Fine motor dexterity required for motorized tools in the fabrication, cutting, milling or welding of materials.
